Editorial Review for Shears Hustle & Blow – by Katie Heffernan

In Short
The neon onslaught that is Ricky's beauty stores is almost absent in its all-white Soho salon, but the inner wild diva makes herself known in other ways. An elaborate chandelier of golden hairdryers is the salon centerpiece, and DJs turn the place into a disco on weekends. It's almost hard not to become distracted from the main purpose of your visit--be it an edgy statement or classic look. The magenta-mohawked stylist can work cut and color magic on any kind of hair.

Insider Tips

Save Money

With women's cuts starting at $50 and men's at $35, this is one of the cheaper salons in the area--and the city.

When to Go

DJs are busy spinning on Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm, and Saturdays between 3pm and 8pm. Early week appointment? No worries--there are five iPod stations.

The Extras

The back of the salon opens up onto the flagship Ricky's where you can pick up post-cut products. Even better, you can purchase a hair color from the store if that's your preference.

Beauty Salon

In addition to cuts and color, Shears can do extensions, flat ironing, updos, braiding and more.

I really like this salon. It's not the most customer oriented salon but will do. I usually pay a few hundred dollars on my hair. I don't care paying that much , as long as I know , I am getting the best. I have been to bumble and bumble , warren tricomi, frederic fekkai , etc,etc.. Shears, hustle, andblow salon have by far the best hair stylists in nyc in my opinion. I have tried everyone there and they're all equally pretty good but each one have they're own style and technique . I sometimes let Tomas do my hair when no one else's available, mostly just blow-dries. They just hired a new girl "Candice", she is "AMAZING"!!! I'ved never gotten so many compliments on my color.

Pros: Simply the best

Cons: customer service could be better

If you want a great cut, style, or even color, contact Tomas, he is a great guy. He will actually listen to what you want and need. You wont be disappointed.....he is very flexible as well with his schedule.... =0 I am always so happy when I leave Tomas, I feel like a new man again......
