Wonderful low-key bar
by guitargirl300
So many bars in Manhattan are overflowing with loud college kids. Being just a few years out of college, this is a bit annoying. La Negrita is a great bar where you can actually hear your friends, they have great drink prices, and the bartenders are always very nice and friendly. I've taken all my friends to this bar and they all think it's amazing too. Many people have had birthday party get-togethers there since it's such a nice atmosphere and can accommodate quite a large number of customers, though it's rarely packed. This is a great place, frequented by locals who know how awesome it is =) Also there's a pizza shop on the block, if you walk up Columbus to the corner of 110... you can even order pizza delivered to the bar and they don't mind. They also have a long happy hour which is great!
- Pros: Chill atmosphere, great drink prices, nice bartenders, rarely packed
- Cons: Occasionally so sparse it's a bit awkward

My husband and I love this bar. We have been fortunate to be a part of the Morningside Heights Community and see all the changes taking place in this neighborhood. Unlike many other bars La negrita holds a level of authenticity in that it does not share the contrived vibe that comes along with gentrification. From the owners to their bartenders La negrita is one of a kind. The crowd is always diverse=interesting, they have reasonably priced drinks, friendly service, brick exposed walls, dimly lit with comfy vintage furniture, very East Village style but with way more cultural flavor because it's Uptown.

Everytime I go there I stay for hours. The crowd there is super nice. The place itself has a very comfortable feel. I feel like I am at a party in a friend's apartment. Up here there are limited places to go but I prefer it over downtown any day. The bartenders are nice and cute. There is always a very "mixed" crowd which makes it interesting.
- Pros: Comfort
- Cons: My boyfriend likes it too

I enjoy la Negrita very much. They Play a variety of Music from Samba, Merengue, Hip-Hop and Reggae. The Bartenders are friendly. The prices for drinks and food are fair.
- Pros: Great Food, Drinks, People and Music
Hidden gem on the UWS!
by brainygirl
La Negrita is the sort of neighborhood bar you wish you had on your streetcorner - luckily, for those of us who live in the UWS/Morningside part of town, we do! It has a great vibe, comfy couches, generous and cheap drinks, a full list of take-out menus, a fantastic trivia night, and if you start hanging out there, after a few nights you really do feel like everybody knows your name! (I almost don't want to write this good of a review so that it stays hip and secret and not too crowded!).
