What People Are Saying About Insieme

Designing a space that appeals to theater-goers, tourists and gourmands isn't easy, but the owners of Insieme came close. Booths separated by string curtains and white oak tables add subtle theatrical flair to the subdued gold and creme room. The genuinely warm staff works with the invisible precision of veteran stagehands. Marco Canora's supremely seasonal menu, meanwhile, is divided into "traditional" and "contemporary" Italian dishes. It's not the big, bold, red sauce flavors you're used to though; Insieme is closer in spirit to Le Bernardin, around the corner, than to Sbarro, down the…

Service has not improved

by ge05065 at Citysearch

Went to Insieme on Friday evening for the first time and the experience was disappointing. I ignored reviews of bad service because they were dated in 2007 and 2008 and I figured they must have improved by now. No such luck. The service staff here seems to have been transplanted en masse from a nearby diner and the upgraded wardrobe could not hide that pedigree. Brusk mannerism, needless (and offending) comments, mix up of orders, and ignoring requests all add up to a bad dining experience.

We did not enjoy the food either but that is not really the kitchen's fault. Someone in the kitchen likes salt and I do not care for overly salted dishes, especially since the good quality ingredients probably did not need it. Nevertheless, the care that went into the execution of the dishes were evident.

BAD SERVICE !!!!!!!

by alexanderpelle at Citysearch

I took my boyfriend to insieme for his birthday last night - the food was wonderful but the service was awful. First, they moved us from one table to another after we had ordered the wine, and admittedly tried hard to make it up to us by sending over a free appetizer and ensuring us that it was a better table. But the worst part was that the server in the new section practically ignored us and when she did come over was cold as ice. One of the other service people was like a tazmanian devil, swooping in to drop bread and silverwear like bricks. We are not hard to please, so her behavior made me decide to frequent other places instead. Too bad, since the food was so good .

Wonderful experience.

by debbie1996 at Citysearch

This weekend was the first time I had been to Insieme. My boyfriend took me there for my birthday and I must say I was not disappointed. We were promply seated with pleasant greetings by the host. Our server (I don't remember her name) was an absolute delight. My boyfriend and I are no experts in wines and chapagnes and she was so helpful and patient with us when deciding what to drink. I didn't have problems with service at all. Overall, the service was very attentive, but not pushy and intrusive.

When you go you must, must order the lasagna bolognese. It is not a great big portion, but it is satisfying and doesn't leave you feeling like you ate the entire dish. Usually when I eat Italian, I find myself adding salt, pepper, or parm. cheese. Not with this. It was perfectly seasoned. You could tell that the pasta was freshly made and the texture had a soft, velvety feel to it. It was tender, but not mushy. For dessert we ordered the blueberry crostata. They wrote Happy Birthday for me on the edge of the plate which I thought was a very nice and personal touch. I don't usually have a sweet tooth so this dessert was perfect for me because it wasn't overly sweet. It came warm with blueberry sauce and loose blueberries on the side.

All in all I would say Inseime is a nice place for couples who want a romantic feel, but make sure to go at night. It can also be for small groups who want a comfortable yet intimate setting. I would not bring children here. But when you come, make sure you bring enough money. Enjoy!

  • Pros: Service, location, excellence food w/wine selection.
  • Cons: Expensive
