Best sushi in the area. I absolutely love this place, firstly for its food, secondly for its friendly staff that provides a great service. I live close by, so I have been going to Suteishi since they opened, but I really want to let everyone know what a great place it is. Jimmy, the head sushi chef, will wow you with an amazing array of rolls and plates. Just give him a chance, sit a the sushi bar and tell him a little about what you like, he will get your taste almost insistently and make you this amazing food that is exactly what you craved. Believe me, I've seen him do this to many of my friends and he always nails their tastes. The seaweed salad is amazing, everything is just so tasty. I highly recommend this spot for a great sushi and check out the sushi bar with Jimmy!
Wow. Best Sushi I've had in NYC (and I eat sushi a lot). I love the sushi rolls here, the appetizers are great, and it's not pretentious. I go all the time. The service is always so friendly and it's nice to sit outside when the weather is good. The prices are reasonable for the quality you're getting. I've eaten at many high-end, highly-rated sushi places and Suteishi has now become the standard I compare them with....it's still my favorite!
From a Customer Satisfied. Where to begin? Suteishi features some of the freshest sushi and sashimi I’ve experienced along with unique fusion rolls and an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. My waiter recommended a cold, sweet sake that blended perfectly with my sashimi. I found their food to be authentic and, surprisingly, homemade. I was shocked to learn that the miso soup, fusion sauces, and even their low sodium soy sauce is all made right at the restaurant! My friend enjoyed her hot food but I believe the sushi bar to be Suteishi’s real strength. I was hesitant to try the Suteishi Pearl specialty roll after learning that it had fried oysters but it was AMAZING. Afterwards, walk a block to the water’s edge for the best view of the Brooklyn Bridge the city has to offer.
Best Kept Secret.
This place is all about the people!! You have to sit at the sushi bar because you will meet some of the greatest people in NY. Jimmy and Jacky really take care of you and make amazing dishes: it's like art. We took pictures of all the plates.
We've been to Suteishi before and had their special rolls, but when you sit at the sushi bar, we got to try a tuna ravioli special. After that you can't help but trust in the chef's. it was really wonderful
stumbled upon gem!. my husband and I went to South Street Seaport to catch the midnight "Absinthe" show at the Speigel Tent on a Saturday and were looking for a place to eat in the area. We found Suteishi after walking around the slip for a minute. After the debate of do you want sushi, i want sushi, do you?...we had sushi. and were very satisfied. The service was excellent! the menu is not too extensive but well balanced. I mentioned i had a cold that day and they brought me camomile tea. The food was delicuous and well presented. the "pearl" roll was excellent with fried oysters inside, however i wish they didnt use immitation crab on top because i am allergic. But the menu did specify that if you have allergies they will be happy to accommodate you in any way but i didn't ask, i just took it off. The special rolls averaged around $15 for 8 pieces, which can get pricey if you are super hungry but once in a while a splurge for a great experience is worth it! They have indoor and outdoor seating, a big clean bathroom, and relaxed candle lit, yet very modern decor.
averege..... This place came highly recommended to me, but I have to be honest that I wasn't that impressed. I thought the sushi was average at best. The seaweed salad we got was practically frozen and I didn't feel like the rolls or pieces had much flavor. Maybe I had it on an off night, but there are lots of other sushi places I would rather go back to.
Tasty. Had a great time here. Everything was delicious, though I wish the spicy shrimp appetizer was bigger. The rolls were also interesting. We were also sitting by the area where they opened their "garage doors" so we had a nice view and had a nice breeze. Would come back here again. Good food, attentive service and good location. I was satisified.
Fantastic Service, Delicious Food!. This place is really great.. the food is impeccable and the service is even better. The beef negimaki was very tasty and the crispy shrimp just perfect. This is by far my new favorite Japanese restaurant. It's a bit pricey, but definitely one of the better options in the area.
Delicious!!!. I saw this place last night after having an awful time at Bin220 down the road. It looked cool so I decided to try it out for lunch today. Delicious!!!
pricey sushi.
The location of the restaurant is cool. It's next to cobblestone streets near the Seaport, which makes it a great find for tourists a bit off the beaten path. The sides open up completely so it has the feeling of an outdoor restaurant (kind of).
The sushi is good but not great. A bit pricey for not-so-fabulous sushi.
