“The atmosphere is versatile enough for a night out with friends, families with kids or even those looking to enjoy a delicious meal with a loved one.”
“Since I'm a dessert freak, I especially enjoyed the "mochi" desert (cold, rice flour puffs filled with mango, coffee or vanilla ice cream) and deep fried bananas drizzled in syrup and powdered sugar.”
“highly recommend this spot for a great sushi and check out the sushi bar with Jimmy!”
“absolutely loved the salmon cerviche and the fried oysters - all recommended by the host.”
“The menu offers you your standard Japanese favorites but upon deeper inspection you will notice some very unique selections.”
“live close by, so I have been going to Suteishi since they opened, but I really want to let everyone know what a great place it is.”
“The decor is great, the service is wonderful, and I know I will definitely go back!”
“absolutely love this place, firstly for its food, secondly for its friendly staff that provides a great service.”
“The special rolls averaged around $15 for 8 pieces, which can get pricey if you are super hungry but once in a while a splurge for a great experience is worth it!”
“(I contribute the slow service to some of the kinks that come with a new place.)”
beautiful restaurant, good good.
I live right above this restuarant so I watched for weeks in anticipation of it's opening... My favorite part is the decor. A beautifully lit wooden wall sets the backdrop and the garage style glass windows open completely for a roomy and airy feel. They put a lot of care and effort into the surroundings and their presentation which I appreciate, and it's not pretentious at all -- everyone who works there is friendly and you are made to feel completely comfortable and casual.
Onto the food, I love their special rolls, the Red Dragon being my favorite! The ingredients are always extremely fresh and used very well. The hot rocks are fun for children and out of towners. Soups and salads are good and I also love the miso eggplant. The only thing I wish was that the menu was a little bigger, I think in a place like this it would be great to take some menu risks and try new ideas. Granted they just opened and the menu has been evolving, I believe they are still figuring it out... But what a great start!
Not impresssed overall..
Well, the people certainly were nice, and the decor was sort of interesting, but I went there for
SUSHI. And the sushi was just average. The rice was just undercooked and underflavored, a subtle but important aspect of sushi. It seems as though they were more interested in creating clever new rolls rather than serving the freshest -- an absolute must for a sushi bar!! --t and tastiest classical sushi. i am getting the idea that when a resataraunt is highly rated, sometimes it is not specifically for the food, but how trendy it is. This is a trendy restaurant. In line with that, they made somewhat of a big thing of their sake, but in fact they are not particularly knowledgeable in that regard, and again, the quality was only average. Overall, my visit there was a disappointment.
Editorial Review. Sushi bar has a diverse menu of fresh sashimi and a hip, modern decor infused with traditional Asian style.
Best Damn Sushi Place Around. I've been to more than my share of sushi joints and I must say that I was not disappointed with this one. I celebrated my 27th birthday here a little while ago. Our waitress was extremely friendly, the food was delicious, the ambiance was very nice, and the manager was very personable. She was very interested to know what we thought of everything and was open to suggestions. Most places don't even give a damn as long as they get your money. The view of the bridge was also a nice touch. I went with 3 friends (just imagine 4 fat Korean dudes), we ate til our stomachs almost burst and drank enough sake until our bladders almost popped all for a very reasonable price. I would definitely bring a date, go back with friends again, or even have a meal by myself at the sushi bar.
Nice homey feel. Great place...great food...great people...great atmosphere! Nice comfortable neighborhood restaurant where I always have consistent food and service.
Best Valentine's Day. Tried lunch here with some co-workers last month and the food was fresh and delicious! The place was beautiful with great views of the Brooklyn Bridge. I decided I would try Suteishi again for dinner. I chose Valentine's Day and it worked out perfect! My girlfriend totally enjoyed the entire evening - we were personally greeted by the staff with our names on the table placecards. The menu was even personalized with our names and date on it. (my girlfriend even saved the menu as a momentum of our first Valentine's Day together!) We ordered from the Valentine's Day special menu and everything was fdelicious - even better than my prior lunch here! Suteishi is an upbeat, romantic place with great ambiance. My girlfriend loved that the dining room was set up with red bows on the wine glasses and red heart candles! The candlelighting was magnificent reflecting off the glass windows. The hosts and waitstaff were super friendly and accomodating and made us feel so comfortable! I highly recommend Suteishi because they provide a great experience - from the casual lunches to the "special" dinners.
Fantastic Surprise on a Hidden Manhattan Street. The first thing that caught my eye at Suteishi was the ambiance. The restaurant had a very modern, sleek look that I really loved, not to mention the sushi bar and attractive waiting staff. The service was quick and my waiter was extremely friendly and knowledge. The food was also a fantastic surprise, especially the sashimi which was VERY FRESH. Overall, a very very satisfying experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Worth the trip!. This new restaurant is definitely worth the trip downtown. From the decor to the food to the staff, all derserves a rating of 10 in my opinion. I love japanese food and it was especially nice to see some unique dishes on the menu that I have not seen at other japanese restaurants. The grilled eggplant is one I have to specifically mention, the sauce was to die for! The only small negative I have is that the dishes are a little on the small side so you have to order more to satisfy a hungry stomach!
TASTY SUSHI~!!!. Shopping at the South Street Seaport has never been a better experience!! I dined at Suteishi this past weekend and was very impressed. The atmosphere was extremely welcoming and cozy with a modern / contemporary decor and a breath taking glass view of the Brooklyn Bridge, which is suitable for a night out with a crowd or a date. The appetizer "Hot Fried Shrimps" was delicious (I recommend it highly)!! The "Sushi / Sashimi" platters were fresh and presented gorgeously. The "Fried Bananas" dessert portion was a little small but unforgettable flavors will definitely make my trip worthwhile for second, third, fourth, etc. time, even in the freezing weather.
A must try.
