The name stands for "French origin," and the menu at this bi-level Soho eatery appropriately offers a variety of Gallic-inflenced fare.

terrible customer service

by kerryaoday

i visited FROG to have a glass of wine with my sister and a friend at 7ish on a tuesday nigh. while sitting at the bar, I started to feel like i was going to faint and asked my sister to walk me to the bathroom. i fainted while en route to the bathroom and had to lie down on a banquette in the dining area until i was able to get up. the owner came over and rudely asked what was going on and asked me to "handle whatever it was in the bathroom". when i said i had just fainted and i needed a minute before i had the strength to get up, and my sister, a nurse asked for water, he looked at his watch and said we better be up and out of there in 5 minutes because he had a party coming in and couldn't have this going on. the chef and bartender were really nice as were the patrons at the bar who helped me get a cab. horrible customer service from the owner and manager. extremely rude, will never visit again and will do my best to make sure i spread the bad word about how awful i was treated by this man. My doctor could not believe his behavior. not acceptable... especially from someone who should be well versed in customer service.

Nightmare! Stay away!

by mandyLousie

I stopped by here on a Saturday night and even before i walked through the door I was greeted by the most ignorant and rude door person I have ever met in my years of going out in NYC. I immediately turned around and left. I've been here twice before and both times it has been dead with underwhelming service and weak drinks. I will never go again. In reality its just another bar in nyc that will go out of business in no time with this type of service and staff. I look foward to seeing what bar takes it place.

At last some food with flavour!

by mbur1gess

Stopped in at FR.OG for a lunch in the middle of a crazy holiday Saturday outside, with everywhere else in SoHo queueing out the door. We were seated immediately without a reservation, the decor upstairs was cool, staff were great, and the food came as quick as expected given how busy the day was. Everything on the menu looked great, and our choices were simply spectacular - wonderful flavours unlike anything we have ever had before. The portions were not so huge that only a pig would finish them, which is a nice change in New York. Overall, this was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in the city - I would give them six stars if I could!

  • Pros: Unique food, sensible-sized portions, cool decor
  • Cons: It's cosy - the next table will be able to hear your conversation

Yuck.

by jsambora

We went to Fr.Og after reading and hearing rave reviews. There was no wait, and we were seated immediately. After our drinks came, we ordered 2 appetizers: the Cigare of Chicken and the Peekytoe Crab & Rice. The Cigare of Chicken was so salty it burned, and the Crab dish was flavorless & tiny with a puddle of avocado waaaaaaaay off to the side of the giant plate it came on. Since we were still pretty hungry after the lousy apps, we were looking forward to dinner. He orderd the Pork and I, the Wild Striped Bass. His pork dish was actually good, but again...a very small portion on a giant plate. The outer edges of my Bass were crispy and almondy and I couldn't wait to dig in...once I did, however, I caught a fairly strong odor of fishy. The inside of my fish was soggy, stinky and limp, so I ate the rice paddy and teaspoon of snowpeas and the outer coating of the fish, but couldn't stomach the stench...and my boyfriend was still unsatiated.

We'd heard the desserts were great, so thought that might cheer us up. We ordered the pistachio souffle and chocolate mousse. The souffle was dry as a bone... but the chocolate mousse was delicious.

All in all, I would recommend this restaurant for drinks on your way to another restaurant in the area. The ambience is nice, the service was attentive but the food=LOUSY and very overpriced.

  • Pros: Service, Ambience
  • Cons: Overpriced, too salty, not fresh and pathetic portions

Best Cocktails for miles around

by debotton

Waliking into FR.OG is to simply feel beautiful. The interior is incredible, don't be put off by first fancy impressions, there is no bad attitude here! If they are placing you upstairs be sure to still take a look downstairs which has a whole other atmosphere. Both bar areas are great, but downstairs is intimate.

You just can't ignore the cocktalis, they are incredible! Starting you off with there little pitas and chef created dip they have you dribbling for your first course to arrive. The food is a fabulous fuison/ interpretation of French Moroccan cuisine. I loved the Fois Gras! Try the Monk Fish if you're a fish eater, you won't be disappointed. They have an incredible date dessert which compliments any of the meals perfectly. Service is always perfect and plenty of good advice with wine. All in all a regularly great experience so far. Perfect place for large parties. They have accomodated our every need so far! We will absolutely keep going back again and again. Saturday lunch we have strolled in in our jeans after shopping, weekday evenings we have arrived there dressed up and ready to match the elegance of our surroundings. A must!

  • Pros: The interior is mind blowing
  • Cons: none
