“This place is more expensive than similar establishments that I visit in Manhattan but for the price you get grab that should not even be sold as street food.”
Happy Stomach = Happy Customer!. I just moved to the neighborhood from Manhattan and having any restaurant at your disposal is defintely hard to compete with, but Aliada seems to be making up for that. My partner and I just love their Salads, and their hummus is absolutely to die for...We ended up just walking in one night and now it has become one of our top picks to either go in and eat or order from!!! The waitress can learn to smile a little, but other than that our stomachs seem to be VERY pleased!!! The owner or manager with the mustache is not that bad either, he ended up giving us dessert on the house and introducing us to his wife...
Alliada's.
Just moved to the area and have enjoyed the decor, ambience, and food (not very flavorful though) with good wine selection. The service, however, is terrible... beginning with the waitress who always stands at the door with a frown, blocking diners from entering.
With the exception of one waiter, the rest of the staff are consistently rude, the owner is rushed. Sadly, I will not be returning.
I like my neighborhood Aliada's!. I've been going to Aliada's for the past five years. I treat this place as a tapas bar. Forget the entrees (which are good), just fill your table up with apps, apps and more apps! Get my favorite salads (Horiatiki) and drizzle their extra virgin & red wine vinegar to your liking and then fill your table with their wonderful wide assortments of apps! The assorted dip plate, Lountza and grilled calamari and if you're into off-beat dishes, try the buttery Glikadakia! Yes, this restaurant has its ups-and-downs but for the most part, they are consistently delicious!
latinboyfoodlover. first, I have read some comments here about Aliada and I think it is BS that someone that doesn't like that restaurant goes there 3 times, but anyway. I go to this place every week, the food there is awesome, the Aegean salad and their seafood is good, the waiters are the most friendly I have ever encountered in a restaurant and the owner is very nice too. my advice, try it, clean place, good food and nice people.
Go somewhere else!. Nice place to go seat and have coffee but don't go inside... My wife and I went there 3 times and this is our combined exp. Food is possibly pre-cooked from the day before so they microwave whatever you order that has to be warm/hot. The owner and his wife or girlfriend are very rude and down right nasty towards "Certain" customers. I am Greek and it's hard for me to talk bad about a fellow Greek (he is not Greek, he is from Cyprus) but the owner's wife sure hates .... and non-white people! The last time we were there, a black woman came in with a white man and I could not believe my ears - the words that were coming out of his wife's mouth. I am not going to go in to details but I am sure they were served food from the floor or left overs from another customer. Needless to say, that was our last time there and we will never go there again. There many other places around there with really good food and 100% better service
Horrible Food. We ate at this place twice. We hated it the first time but it is been a while and we decided to give it another chance. The biggest waste of money we've ever made! This time we had a chicken dish and a seafood platter. The chicken dish had the prevailing flavor of old, freezer burned, stale meat while the seafood tasted funky and rubbery as if it was sitting somewhere way past its expiration date. It was so bad - I hardly touched my food. Side items and salads were mediocre at best, the food was bland, had no flavor and was certainly something you'd never think of ordering again. This place is more expensive than similar establishments that I visit in Manhattan but for the price you get grab that should not even be sold as street food. Never coming back.
nothing special. nothing special.....except from their salads. very bad service. all waiters are very rude except from one waitress called christina. i have been there plenty of times since i live very close to the restaurant. quality of food is extremely low. pre-cooked food and frozen seafood. you ask for a specific type of wine and they give you something totally different as if you had never had that wine before. when they run out of a specific wine they mix up 2 or 3 more wines together, i have seen this happening. waiters believe that all customers are stupid and they make jokes( loud) about everyone. the owners do not care anymore, they used to be more friendly.
Cozy and warm, great salads and never a wait. I've been to Aliada about 7 or 8 times and it never disappoints. For vegetarians, this place is fantastic. For meat-eaters, it's probably nothing special though there is a plethora of meat options on the menu. The salads are excellent. The vegetables are always fresh and tasty and the variety of salads is nice. The dips are ok. I've had better dips in other Greek/Cypriot restaurants in Astoria, but I must say I enjoy Aliada's feta and red pepper dip. A favorite appetizer of mine is the grill-fried haloumi cheese. If you like soft, salty cheese, you'll love this cheese. The service is very welcoming and attentive. I often find the waiters staring at the customers which is a little annoying but, I guess you can't blame them: people are interesting! I'd recommend Aliada though it's not the best restaurant of its kind in Astoria.
Editorial Review. Daily Grecian and Cypriot specials like okra with chicken distinguish this corner spot in Astoria.
