Classic bistro fare and a BYOB policy bait entice diners at this cozy Soho spot.
A MUST if you're in the city! :)

Very fine cuisine :) I brought my father who was in the city for business here, and though he's a picky eater, he absolutely raved about every dish! I HIGHLY recommend the escargot appetizer... the olive oil sauce it's in was incredible (the bread is there for a reason!). We ordered the Fillet Mignon and Halibut, and both were exquisite (not to mention the complimentary vegetable puree). French cuisine is all about the sauce, and they did a wonderful job. I loved every second of my time here... no question that I am coming back!
Make sure you have a reservation... but, around this time of year, coming in around 5pm on a Saturday w/o a reservation is no problem.
- Pros: authentic french food, excellent service, BYOB
best meal i've had in nyc

I went to la sirene on a monday night (mon+tues, the chef is there). i've heard so many good things about the goat cheese tart and the escargot, that i decided to try it. i normally am not a big fan of cheese or tarts, and i've never had escargot in the past...but hands down...these 2 were absolutely amazing, and quite frankly - the best thing i've ever eaten in my life in NYC. that's a huge statement, but it is 100% true. the escargot was soft, in a olive oil/pesto-esque sauce that i could not just waste - i had to dip the bread in it and it was just finger licking good. the goat cheese tart was the BEST of the best - i can order 2 of those and have them all by myself. we also ordered the lamb in a wine/cream reduction (delicious) and a special with beans/bacon/duck (great, but not exceptional). the 4 veggie sides that come with the entrees are really good as well - the sweet potato mash, pineapple, and 2 other veggies that i don't know the name of but was really tasty. we shared the profitoles for dessert. it was perfect - the vanilla ice cream was really cold and not too hard, not too soft...the chocolate covering them was the real thing - bittersweet quality chocolate. i would recommend this place to everyone - in fact i kinda want to keep it a secret and only tell a few people for fear that it might get too popular, which would make getting seats there more difficult! when i go back, i think i need to have the goat cheese tart and escargot at every visit, and maybe try new entrees - at this point, i think whatever they serve will be absolutely delicious. even when you enter the restaurant - you don't know what they are cooking, but it smells amazing in there. the chef and waitress was so nice and charming. it was really one of the best (if not the best) dining experience i've ever had in NYC.
- Pros: hospitable, charming chef/waitress, delicious food, BYOB
- Cons: nothing
amazing food and exceptional service

I went to La Sirene on a Tuesday night this past week and for the second time in a row, had an amazing time. The food was absolutely exceptional -- better quality than places I've been to in the city 3 times the price. The service is unparalleled. So here's the story .. it was my friend's bday and I made a reservation sort of last minute -- on the night before. They said that they only have 2 seating times -- 7:00 and 9:30. I told them that I needed to make the reservation at 8 and they agreed saying it would probably work because no one had reserved yet for the 9:30 reservation.
Tuesday comes along and I get stuck at work. I call to tell them I'll be late and see if I can just change to the 9:30 time, and they say that they accidentally wrote my reservation down for Wed instead of Tue and that a group had reserved the whole restaurant for the 9:30 reseservation on Tue. Typically, in NYC, at this point you would be screwed, and argument may take place, and the restaurant wouldnt care. This was the opposite. They put the the chef on the phone and he apologized to me and said we could come back tomorrow and eat entirely for free. But I explained it was for a bday, and he offered to do his best to accomodate me and rush us as little as possible, and give us 50% off our meal... I had no other options so i went with plan B.
When we got there, despite my being late for an 8oclock reservation, they accomodated us and told us they talked to the group and we wouldnt have to move. They were so kind to us and kept apologizing for everything and even sent out extra dishes (all of which were amazing). Then when the group came, they apologized for the noise (which was minimal) and even sent us over a bottle of champagne. Then, on top of everything, they gave us half off on one of the best meals i've had in NYC even after they didn't rush us...
Overall, this place is fantastic and I highly recommend it. 5 star food. 5 star service.
When I got there (which was after 8).
