The Scene – This is the Williamsburg version of all grown up: Retro couches and a jukebox playing everything from Lou Reed to Jay-Z are tempered with a warm color palette, a polished bar and tables carved from a single cherry tree. The bar's raison d'etre, however, is its charming back patio complete with large wooden benches, wrought iron furniture and climbing ivy. – – The Food – Simple ingredients shine in chef Aaron Mauze's tapas menu. Just a hint of garlic spices plump garlic shrimp, allowing the freshness of the crustaceans to stand out. A limp pepperoni-laden…

Tapas Bar with a Nauseating Aftertaste

by Kantorowizc at Citysearch

If you enjoy the passive aggressive hospitality of an impatient prison guard then Nita Nita is the place for you. Don't let the overpriced stale draft beer or the cliché decorative aesthetic fool you, at Nita Nita you'll find the ethnically homogenized crowds that tend to sit well with anxious yipsters. This reviewer was thoroughly impressed by how quickly and viscerally a particular bartender(perhaps owner?) reacted to his use of the jukebox. It seems Nita Nita wants to have it both ways: 1) they what to get props for featuring an eclectic music selection on their jukebox (namely two classic salsa albums) 2) But cringe at the thought that a paying customer would have the audacity to play them (two "Latin" song is 1 too many at this Chicky joint) ... In many ways Nita Nita's xenophobic staff is symptomatic of a more general decline of the neighborhood that has progressively become less diverse and more mediocre. When confronted for the crude gesture of switching the songs yours truly paid for, the bartender (a.k.a the villain of this story) resorted to the impeccable reasoning of a greedy 5 year old at a public sand box: "No... It's MINE, it's MY _______ (i.e sand pale/Jukebox)". Since xenophobes tend to make lousy capitalist, its no surprise that my party and I decided to skedaddle before finishing our drinks as we tried to comprehend what we just witnessed. Perhaps the Bartender/Owner should consider eliminating the 2 offensive albums or for that matter the jukebox all together, and thus spare future customers from such a nauseating display of ethnic intolerance and hysterical xenophobia.

I LOVE this place. The vibe is really laid-back, and the service is attentive without being over-bearing. The food is really creative and yummy! Chorizo is to die for, as were their sauteed greens. and to top it all off, it's affordable too! Go and try it! I think I'll be there tonite!

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, ambience, food. Great place to take your time and enjoy everything.
  • Cons: I wish I lived closer!
