What People Are Saying About Grom Gelato
Featured Review

In Short – The city has been experiencing an uptick of frozen treat options, and no spot has received as much buzz as this gelato chain in its U.S. debut. All walks of Upper West Siders--from tipsy post-dinner dates to soccer Moms looking for a mid-day sugar high--form long lines for the all-natural gelatos and sorbets. Seasonally changing flavors read like an Italian Greenmarket inventory: ricotta made from sheep's milk, zabaione made with Marsala wine, and pink grapefruit sorbet.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The stuff ain't cheap: A small cup (or cone) will cost you five and change.
- Where to Sit:
- Most people seem content to grab their gelato for a stroll down Broadway, but there are a few tables in the back of the store for those who want to sit and savor.
- The Extras:
- Slushes, like sorbet but more granular, are available May through September and come in coffee, almond and lemon flavors.

Such great ice cream - problem is that everyone knows this so there are HUGE lines and it's a bit chaotic.
But worth it. I go for the classics - pecan or chocolate and raspberry sorbet. Perfect treat after a stressful NYC day!
Ciao Bella Now Uses Fillers in their Ice Cream!

Diasppointed to see that many (all? - we had their chocolate and triple espresso) of their ice creams now use
- Guar Gum
- Locust Bean Gum
- Carrageenan
all at the same time. Yikes! We loved the ice cram they make, but now won't touch it. Had some lately and wondered why it tasted funny. Then we read the list of ingredients. Looks like the expansion of their business drove a once great brand to focus more on profits than on the quality that got them to the top.

I've read some of the other reviews, some think the prices are a bit steep. I say you get what you pay for. They use high quality ingredients and you can taste the difference. As far as favors, if you like a cookie and creme taste, I recommend the Crema de Grom. My favorite! It's a vanilla with chunks of biscotti and chocolate chips. But don't take my word, when you get there ask for samples.
You can't miss this place during the summer. There's usually a line out the door spilling into the sidewalk. Though it helps by the fact the counter is right at the door.
Yummy gelato and sorbet

This is a gem on UWS. Awesome thick creamy gelato - I love the pistachio. Their sorbets are excellent too - I had the apricot sorbet yesterday and it was perfect. I will definitely go there again and highly recommend it. I love that the gelato is so creamy.
- Pros: Yummy
- Cons: NONE

it's the uws and walking around to stop and get a tasty treat is a fun thing to do. they are open late-ish, so if you go and catch a movie, it's there. love all the flavors i have tried so far-and they are generous with samples and explanations. sure it's $5, but its a life saver in ny humidity.
