Owned by Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz and a few likeminded friends, this lounge is either an homage to their various musical influences or the product of artistic differences. The mismatched hangout juxtaposes gongs behind the bar with the gothic rock-and-roll of black leather seating, wooden thrones and chandeliers. Mug shots of Frank Sinatra, Jim Morrison and Sid Vicious show clear admiration for bad-boy musicians, and the love for music continues to permeate the air thanks to frequent DJ sets and a jukebox that blasts Human League and Guns N' Roses.
Editor's Tips
- When to Go:
- Weekday theme parties offer drink specials throughout the night like $5 whiskey shots and more. Check the website for more information.
- Look Good:
- DJ Ultragrrrl spins every Friday for the Stolen Transmission party. If you're lucky, you'll happen by the bar when a birthday party for a semi-famous rocker is being thrown.
- Know Before You Go:
- There is no cover, but it can get packed, and tables may be reserved with bottle service. Also, although the bar has been touted as a "dive" drink prices are steep--they start with a $4 can of PBR and work their way up.
- The Extras:
- If you're lucky, you'll happen by the bar when a birthday party for a semi-famous rocker is being thrown.
- Know Before You Go:
- There is no cover but it can get packed, and tables may be reserved for bottle service customers.

Everything was great, except...
by jujubee1993
So I walked into this place with high hopes. I had no idea it was Pete Wentz's bar, but it was tucked away and dark which is always a good thing to me. It has a decent amount of seating, though on weekends it is probably much more crowded. The crowd is mainly laid-back young types that may or may not be 21. After one musician finished his acoustic set I was pleasantly surprised to hear a few tracks from the new Grizzly Bear album. This turned out to be too good to be true however as a shoe-less wannabe hipster got up to perform some of the worst music I've ever heard. It sounded like the kind of music an angsty 12 year old from a small town might make in his basement. Only apparently someone must have told this dude it was a good idea to start performing. I wish I could find whoever that was and beat them senseless. I should clarify that he had no real musical ability and was merely rapping/singing horribly off-key into a mic.
That and the fact that my well gin drink was easily the worst gin I've ever tasted made me leave shortly thereafter. (Incidentally, I get the whole cheap liquor that gets you drunk appeal since everyone there was probably still in the getting wasted phase of their life, but I'm 26 and I'd prefer to enjoy my drink thank you. Also I don't think well should automatically equal s**t.)
- Pros: Decor, music selection, crowd
- Cons: well liquor, live music assault
Cool scene

As a huge Fall Out Boy fan, I felt it was my duty to come and see what this place is all about and I can safely say that all of my expectations were met, nay, exceeded.
Everyone was really cool, the crowd was totally my type of people. The service and booze were great. The bartender made me and my friends several rounds of these "Hello Kitty" shots with vodka and Ty ku (which has a light-up bottle! So sick!). The decor is dark, but totally rad if you're into eclectic music and stuff. All in all, great visit.
- Pros: cool crowd, great drinks
- Cons: crowded on weekends

A typical night out for a few girl friends of mine always consist of tuesday nights at Angels & Kings. The sweet door man to the small dark atmosphere really make the night an intimate yet relaxed evening. There is no pretentious New Yorkers lurking around this bar, just your average mix of hipsters and pretty young girls. Everyone is very friendly and the bartenders are charming and accommodating, not to mention easy on the eyes. All in all i would recommend A&K for just a low key night out or even for a private party!
Unsanitary bartender with a bad attitude!

I went there there with 5 friends on Saturday night, mind you it was Passover so all bars in NYC were DEAD!!! You would think the bartender would be eager to get business being that there were very few people in the bar but not so much!!
I waited at the bar for the bartender to finish his conversation with some hot girl so I could get served. I waited a good 2-3 minutes, so that was annoying! Then I ordered 4 Guinness, as he went to the cooler to get the 4 cans he had to finish a text message on his phone first before he could get the drinks for us... annoying again!
He then proceeds to take out 4 chilled glasses, open all the cans and turn them upside down and let the Guinness pour into the glass. Watching this, I quickly grabbed my can and so did my husband grab his, so all the beer doesn't go all around the dirty, nasty can. When we did this, the bartender snapped at us and said "easy, what are you doing" We said that we didn't want the can in our beer because they aren't clean and thats just plain gross! The bartender got an attitude back at us and said that he personally cleans every can before he stocks the cooler. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!! Now this cocky j*rk didn't realize... he is telling a bar manager this information ( my husband), yeah they should clean them but nobody every does. And clearly proved how lazy he was throughout our whole 5 minute transaction, so I doubt he's cleaning cases of beer before he stocks the coolers! So all in all the bartender was a liar, wanted to fight with me and my husband and was a huge arrogant $%#*#&%! It is safe to say I will never go back there again!!!!
- Pros: Next door to a better bar where the bartenders have no attitude!
- Cons: Unsanitary, bad attitude by tall preppy bartender, dark bathrooms
friendly, pseudo, not cheap and no food

In the East Village, it's a punk bar with poseur prices. No food (though they do have take-out menus), but plenty of barely 20 somethings experimenting with new haircuts. The crowd is friendly, though, and so is the bartender. Not the snob action you might expect. Lots of space... and some dancing. Not much else to say. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers
- Pros: friendly, good people watching,
- Cons: no food, somewhat pricey for the style and location
