The Scene
The entryway of this Curry Hill vegetarian restaurant displays stacks of round, metal containers used in India to transport tiffin (light meals). Further in, the ceiling pops with a bright green straight out of a Bollywood film, while a wall of raised white dots resembles graffiti written in Braille. Neighborhood residents and workers sit side-by-side trekking veggie fanatics at tables decorated with flowers in green vases.
The Food
The vegetarian fare is as bold and clean as the restaurant's design. Cashew nuts with a fiery masala glaze prep tastebuds for the diverse flavors to come. Combination plates called thali offer an assortment of dishes: The Southern Indian platter is a knockout, and includes pillowy pancakes called imli, a crispy dosa filled with potato curry and a fluffy donut-like vada. Rich, comforting badam halva (almond paste), should change the mind of anyone who associates Indian desserts with freezer-burned ice cream.

Tiffin is extremely delicious and affordable! Amazing lunch buffet (I think about $7.50) I love a bunch of Indian restaurants in that area, but after a while I found myself going to Madras Mahal for the yummy food and going to Chennai Garden for their much better badam halwa for desert. When I went to Tiffin Wallah for the first time I got to have amazing food+ amazing desert under one roof! No more having to go restaurant hopping to have the best Indian meal!

I've had a really hard time finding good kosher Indian food, but this has been by far the best. The samosa was one of the best I've had, and the Alu Gobi was to die for. The mango shake was also really good and a great accompaniment.
