Best Thai Cuisine for the buck
by PublicRoutes
If you are traveling from New Jersey into New York and looking for Thai food, this is the place to be. Only steps from Port Authority Bus Terminal, Chili Thai is affordable and easily accessed by MTA Bus, Subway & NJ Transit bus.
Simply great

I found this place by accident as I was walking down 9th Ave one night, feeling hungry. I wanted a small, non-scene place to eat alone before meeting friends for a drink. I had a tapas style dinner and ordered a salad and two appetizers. I was seduced! It was all VERY tasty and beautifully served. The prices are so reasonable that are unusual for NY! Recently, my partner and I were there. We had a fantastic dinner from appetizers to desserts. Service was prompt, social, and quite helpful. The place is hip, sort of a Thai bistro with great lounge music in the bakckground and subtle lighting - awesome spot for casual, quiet, delicious eating! It's BYOB though. So, bring your own wine.
- Pros: Food, Service, Ambience
- Cons: None
For Strict Veg/Vegans, this is the only place for Thai
by VegBoy
This place is unreal. It is small and cramped and quite hot in the summer. That's the only negative. This place is the only Thai place (or ANY Asian restaurant) I can go to and not worry about having real vegetarian food. I am not vegan, but I usually say I am when at Thai/Chinese restaurants because most places think they are serving vegetarian, but in fact are using fish sauce, shrimp paste, chicken stock, etc. At Chili Thai, the head chef prepares all my dishes from scratch (I've watched him) and doesn't use any fish, chicken, shrimp bases. They also make excellent fried rice without egg. The food is really really tasty. The best in NYC in my opinion. My favorites are the Massaman Curry and Pad Ma-Keau. IF YOU ARE STRICT VEGETARIAN OR VEGAN, THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN GO AND EAT IN PEACE. A big YDW to Bo-Pha - You Da Woman.
- Pros: Food, The best Vegan/Vegetarian
- Cons: Seating, but you can get delivery/pick up as well
Sneakers accepted.

Ok, This place is not 'Le Cirque'. (But) It is a great place to stop and have a quick Thai fix at an unbeatable price. There are no fancy table tops here ( Oh prehaps a visit from the Q.E.F.S.G. boys wouldn't hurt...) however the staff is super friendly and attentive. (And) NOT in that coached, mock "I'm your buddy since you're here..." way! I was walking on the street and ducked in (No waiting!) for lunch and had the Gang-Ped-Yang with iced Thai tea. Pretty basic but delicioso! Fast, hot food, quiet, can watch the envious folks strolling by, what more do you need when you're not in a suit and tie and your stomach is saying "Sawasdee"!
- Pros: Good, fast service. Decent price for tasty food.
- Cons: Decor: Going for rustic; ended up with non-existant...
My closet is bigger than this place

The staff is friendly enough but the food is so-so with small portions. The atmosphere is non existent, small and frankly very dumpy looking. More geared for take out in our opinion. We ordered mango with sticky rice for desert and I am still looking for the mango because the amount was so small and not even ripe that we basically should just have ordered the sticky rice which was just okay. Skip this place and head on to Pam Real Thai Encore at 402 West 47th street which has much bigger portions and nice ambience for the same money. However, the service is not on the ball so be prepared for that aspect of it.
