“It was the best one I have ever been to and the prices were really great.”
“Samar Spa is trully amazing and my facial was the best I had ever received in a long time.”
A dingy dump. I had a groupon, walked in and walked out. The place too crummy for me to trust them anywhere near my hands and feet.
This is about the 4th time that I go to Samar. The first time I visited her saloon was when I was looking for an up do for my son's baptism 2 years ago. She had the best price and was willing to arrive two hours earlier than her usual time to do my hair. After that I continued to go to her saloon for occasional blow dry because she has the best price in town and did not charge me any extras for my super long hair. I recently bought a groupon for her new location for the manicure and pedicure. I was a little disappointed with having to wait a week. But I tried to keep a positive attitude since I know that it was a great deal. I arrived at my appointment and this very nice sweet Guatemalan girl took great care of me. She took her time, took the dirt that grows under the toe nails which no one else ever does in this city. Gave me a great foot and hand massage using a deliciously scented body scrub product. It was a fantastic experience! The owner is a little loud and talks a lot in her own language with her friends. I don't think that she means to be rude; she is just enjoying her self and having a nice conversation. She is from the Mediterranean Sea, so if you been to Italy you know what I'm talking about. Its part of her culture, she can't help it! So if you don't mind putting up with laughs, smiles and yelling in another language to have the best service in town at the most affordable price in town, this place is definitely for you :)
Best haircut I've ever had!. I've been living in Yorkville for several years now and I've been going to Samar for almost all of those years. She and her staff are phenomenal, and her new location is even better than the previous location. You will feel welcomed and like a part of the family, and you will walk out looking amazing. There are several salons who will charge you much higher rates, but don't be fooled by their prices. Samar Salon provides outstanding service at very reasonable prices.
Worst spa experience EVER!.
Don't be fooled by the pics online. They've changed locations and the new place is a complete dump. My boyfriend purchased the mani/pedi/facial/massage deal from ny daily news online.
Mani and Pedi- took way too long, painted on my skin, nail tech attempted to use dirty and used toe separators on me. I had to separate my toes myself with paper towels. and while getting this done i was subjected to N-word jokes and yo mama jokes that came on along with the crappy music from the iPOD. Yes. you read that right. EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE
Facial - done while in a cramped space no bigger than a walk-in closet with lights blazing, never discussed my skin or what products she was using or why. used cold wet paper towels to remove product from my face. never used hot moist towels or a steamer.
Massage - was instructed to take off top and bra with lights blazing and masseuse/nail tech in room with me. Did a good job with massage but was 15 mins instead of 30 and was only shoulders and back instead of full body. Owner said facial took too long and massage was shortened because of this.
Bathroom - stinky, sink full of bowls and brushes you have to remove yourself, nothing to dry your hands with. not enough room to sit on toilet with legs straight out in front of you. low overhead ceiling, don't bump your head!
don't go here! the owner is unprofessional and rude and the place is a disaster complete with flies.
I was very impressed with Samar. I am French and i have been living in NYC for 10 years. I went to so many different Hairdressers in the city and i was always dessappointed with my hair colo. Colorists always do my color way too dark. Also some hairdressers r not able to do a great blow-dry. I have very long hair. For example i went to Vidal Sassoon in my hood (i live on 14th street) and it was the worst Blow dry! They use a flat brush! expensive and have an attitude. Samar was very friendly..i was staying UES at my girlfriend's apartment on 93rd/1rst. Don't know the hood very well and i just walked in. Samar looked at my hair color -took her time...- it was a disaster because i started doing color myself. She did 2 different colors on my hair because it was darker on the top and lighter in the back..The result was great!!!!! first time after 10 years in the city Samar got the right color!!!!! then i needed a haircut. I love my long hair..i am very scared when i get a haircut. Samar cut my hair exactly the way i wanted!!! little layers in the front..she didn't cut too much... i felt like i was a new woman when i left her. I live all away downtown from her Salon but i will go back for sure..Plus the girl working for her Dorina did my blow dry...She was very good!!! i was impressed too!!! And just want to tell people i am not a member of Samar's family!!!! i was so happy after so many years unhappy i HAD to let u know!!!!
The Worst Salon in NYC!. It was the most horrifying experience of my life! Do yourselves a huge favor by avoiding this place. I bought a spa deal and went over - first it looks like a hospital with white walls. Then "masseuse" was an hour late. So owner starts with a "facial" - the whole time yelling on the phone in her native language. She rubs something on my face, leaves room and that's it!!! Later when masseuse started, the owner increased the decibel level of yelling to intolerable. The services were prepaid as a package I bought online so I couldn't even get money back. I cut short hour massage to 20 mins and RAN!!! The room for massage was tiny and door broken so doesn't lock. The audacity of the owner was a joke - she made me pay 20% in TIPS - I was sooo scared and mortified, I just paid and ran out. I seriously contemplated calling the Police but wanted no part of seeing her ever. Believe me, 20 years in Manhattan and I've seen a ton - this was the MOST EMBARRASSING AND HORRIFYING experience. What a waste and humiliation. DO NOT EVER GO!! She even said she makes her family and friends write good reviews because other reviews are so terrible. Go figure!
hair extension. I have been going to Samar Spa for years since it opened. You get 5 STAR service with reasonaable prices. The services are personal and Samar and staffs take their time to explain things to me. I have my regular hair color and highlight and hair cut at the spa. Samar uses INOA hair color, the best 'coz it does not dry your hair. A week ago, I had my very first hair extension done at Samar Spa and it came out so gorgeous. Mine is not an easy one 'coz I have a bald spot and I was wearing hair piece every day. Now, I have a beautiful healthy head of hair. Thanks to Samar and her wonderful staffs.
I wouldn't go again.
I've been to this salon on numerous occasions...
Got my hair done, but the owner just did what ever she wanted with it! I came out with hair so short, I wanted to hide away for a few weeks... she just does what she wants with your hair, tells you you look great with a 50's hairstyle :(
Facials: when I asked if I can use my coupon she said no, we're already giving you a good deal.. they charged me $100+.
NOT IMPRESSED.
I got low lights and high lights put into my hair. She was not very friendly, and the high/low lights were done very sloppily. She wasn't very meticulous about it, and I am not happy with how it ended up. I don't mind paying $250 to get my hair done, but if it looks sloppy, and the hair dresser is rude...it's not worth my money or time.
I will never go back and I do not recommend.
