Beware!.
Last week I was robbed at work. My handbag with everything including my cellphone, address book, keys and wallet was stolen. By the time the police finished the report it was late.
Before leaving work I searched for East Village locksmiths. Access Locksmith popped up first. I called for an estimate and was told it would cost about $300.00. I rushed home, stressed and worried I would have to sleep on the street if I missed the locksmith.
As their locksmith was working I asked him to confirm the estimate. Casually he told me it would cost more than double what I'd been told. The total was almost $800.00. No joke.
He charged me $770.00 - to remove and replace 2 locks on my apt. door (1 had a plate). $770.00 !!!!
I was nearly in tears.
At that point I had no choice. None of my neighbors were home. I had no way of contacting anyone, and no money on me.
His work was o.k. But overcharging like that was incredibly predatory. It takes me nearly 2 weeks to earn that much. If I'd be given an accurate quote I would not have used this company. It was like being robbed twice. Awful.…
