Lua Restaurant. Lua in Hoboken is one of my favorite places to unwind. Located on Sinatra Drive overlooking the Hudson; Lua offers a Latin Restaurant with a breath taking view of New York City. If your not in the mood for a meal, stick around and enjoy their lounge and night life. Regardless of your preference Lua is sure to please.
Love it!. The decor here is excellent. The food is extremely tasty. It's a little pricey, but worth it! Best part is the view of the Manhattan skyline.....amazing! Another good thing is on the week-ends when you're done eating dinner, you can slide over to the bar area where they have a DJ and dancing.
thanks for messing up our birthday plans.
I had reservations for dec 6th at 12:30 for brunch. I made the reservations a week before. I get a call the night before telling me they now have a private party at 1pm and would be kicking us out at that time. So if you cant eat in 30 minutes please come at another time.
thanks for messing up the birthday plans , by giving us basically no advance notice
I love Lua!!!. I love Lua I am glad me,my besties, and my baby lolz went for my 23rd birthday a couple weeks ago. The food is delicious I have dined there twice and partied three times i'll probably be back again eventually but I loved the food the miso cod is too die for! The plantains amazing, my dessert a chocolate cake with molten chocolate whew it just made my heart melt. I will be back what a great night and place to celebrate. Just one con the lack of dance space because it gets crowded. Otherwise you will enjoy it.
One of the better places in Hoboken. Have been here before but went this past Friday and it was great. Was able to get a table pretty quick even at 10:00. Had a fabulous late dinner and a few drinks. Definitely a spot you must go to in Hoboken.
shiny new penny. 3/1/2009 What a circus, we came two couples and one had their baby twins with them in a carrige, the houstest told us that the babies must be put in baby chair and could not stay in strawler. We were told that it would inconvience the surver. After showing and explaning to the houstess that no one would be inconvienced and reminding her that babbies are better behaved when they sleep she still could not give us an answer if it was ok to sit down, her responese was "i dont know" and that went back and forth about six times after wich we just sat on our own. The fun had just started when some dishes on menu was not availeble including coffee cups. When asked if we wanted dessert the waitress kindly as she put "hinted" that anther larger party was coming SOON. This place makes you feel like a shiny new penny and finally after some people left we got coffe in dirty cups!
Not for Dinner. I've been here a few times with friends for drinks and I came here for dinner with my boyfriend on a weekday night. There was hardly anybody there and so you would think they would allow us to take our time and enjoy a relaxing evening. Not so much. I felt a bit rushed from the get go, and we had about 10 different servers. I am all about tapas and small sharing plates, however these are incredibly small and the seafood was not extraordinary for those prices. Most of the appetizers are more of a delicacy. The sauces used in the dishes were okay though. Nonetheless, the bar is usually good on the weekends, however I would suggest Sabor if you are looking for a cool Latin Bistro.
Are you kidding me?. I MUST believe that any positive review of this place was written by the staff. This restaurant has a beautiful decor and beautiful views of the Manhattan skyline. The food is very good. However, even sitting there talking to my husband and enjoying myself, the service was so bad that it eventually ruined our moods for the rest of the evening. We are VERY generous tippers (we both bartended through law school (me) /MBA (him) and hate bad tippers) we actually considered not tipping. It was bad. We ended up leaving 15% and advising the staff that the tip was representative of the deplorable service. It was REALLY bad. I spent almost an hour trying to get a second cocktail. That is exhausting, not relaxing and certainly not fun.
My Favorite Restaurant in Hoboken - Best Sangria Hands Down.
I'm shocked by that other review below because I've been there 3 times and always have such great food there. I love their sangria and I love their Paella, their Parillada (for all you meat lovers...mmm), um... their empanadas were great...their chorizos was awesome. It may be a little loud sometimes for comfortable conversation. I've eaten at the bar once, once in the dining room, and once outside and never had an issue with the wait staff...they were always very polite to me and gave me good service...
I love this place!
On the decline.
On the decline ...
I'm sad to write this review, yet am compelled to do so,
since my words fell on deaf ears when I attempted to speak to the staff at Lua.
For a combo of Mother's Day & 2 family birthdays, my husband & I brought my parents to Lua for a celebratory dinner.
Having been there many times, we were prepared for a nice experience.
Sadly, this once memorable restaurant is on the decline.
We were kept waiting to be seated without apology or a courteous explanation,
although we had a reservation & the dining room was empty.
The restaurant is filthy & badly maintained: dust is caked on the columns & other surfaces, curtains are dirty, windows smeared, light bulbs out, food on the floor ? disgusting.
Bathrooms are filthy & poorly maintained: toilet paper strewn about the floor, tile missing, broken toilet seats, light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, dirty walls & floors ?
The staff is flip, uncaring, inexperienced & childish.
When I made my reservation, I had told the hostess that we had 2 birthdays to celebrate & she assured me that, "Of course we'll do something special for you for dessert!"
When we arrived at the restaurant, I reminded the hostess of this.
Dessert arrived. Nothing.
When I told the waiter, he was uncaring about the error & blamed the hostess saying,
"The hostess staff aren't the brightest people here."
The food, has taken a turn as well.
Calamari was tough & overcooked.
Stuffed shrimp was overcooked & appeared to have sat at the pick up counter for too long. Roast pork, which was once succulent & came in a generous portion, was more sparingly served + dry & overly sweet.
One of the worst offenses is the Valet Parking service, which creates a traffic hazard,
as cars block an entire lane of incoming traffic & people come & go within the stream of both lanes!
Goodbye Lua.
When I'm paying up to $52.00 for an entree, this is not the environment in which
I care to spend it.
