A sprawling Upper East Side store for women who have grown past cocktail dresses and club wear..
In Short
Sometimes simple comfort beats out the avant-garde--even in New York. Coldwater Creek's clothing won't turn heads, but at least you'll feel good in them. The gargantuan store features a grand granite fountain, world music wafting on the stereo and a friendly and willing staff. Soft cotton sweaters, long velvet skirts, pant suits, colorful tunics and embroidered T-shirts are displayed next to mom-friendly gifts such as lotions and cookbooks. The dresses aren't any more risque than the rest of the stock, full of conservative cuts and floral prints.
Hits: The atmosphere really relaxes; if you spend enough time here, you might forget you are in New York.
Misses: This store caters to one specific demographic: mature women. Don't expect to find anything hip or edgy.
