In Short
Devoid of clubby booths and wood-grain paneling, Jack O'Neill's greets drinkers with brick and white walls and smaller dark wood tables. Chalkboards showcase the kitchen offerings, which include sandwiches and salads, but food service can be erratic when there's a crowd. At midnight, wander in from the back patio to the bar and ask for a Krosovice Imperial mixed with raspberry syrup--a sweet nod to the neighborhood's Eastern European roots.
Hits: The friendly bartenders take great pride in their art--the bloody marys in particular. Each bartender mixes his or her own concoction and will happily tweak the recipe to suit individual tastes.
Misses: The straight-forward decor is more restaurant than bar, and those searching for more unusual, quirky scenery may be disappointed.
