Editorial Review for The Dressing Room – by Keith Wagstaff

In Short
Some crave a hot slice of pizza after a night of boozing; for fashionable women in the Lower East Side, hip designs from up-and-coming designers do the trick. This bar/boutique functions as a designer co-op, showcasing 10 local designers in the upstairs showroom with styles ranging from funky street to simple, from elegant to punk rock chic. Past the full bar, which gets a vintage vibe from an abundance of antique mirrors and throw pillows, is the stairway leading down to an eclectic array of used and vintage clothing.

Hits
There is truly something for every price range and personality type at this boutique, from $30 hipster T-shirts to elegant $3,000 dresses.

Misses
The bar itself has a funky, comfortable vibe, but needs to beef up its beer and specialty cocktail selection to make itself stand out.

The Extras

Don't worry guys, the store didn't forget about you--it stocks at least one men's designer at all times and carries a small selection of vintage men's clothing and old-school sneakers downstairs.

When to Go

The store rotates its roster of 10 designers every four months.

The Dressing Room is on high-rotation in my list of NY destinations. I always shop there if I'm going out or to a party and want to ensure that no-one else in the room will be wearing it. They have a great roster of young designers upstairs (all very distinct and wearable, but affordable) and downstairs is a huge collection of vintage for men & women at amazing prices. The bar is really great too - everyone is really friendly that works there and on the weekend it's a great mix of artists, designers, indie rockers and locals. The drinks are reasonably priced and they are always playing somekind of really interesting movie on the back wall, which really adds to the ambiance. It's a great place for a date or to meet up with your friends. Also, if you have friends in from out of town, this should definitely be a stop on your list.

Pros: Great Young Designers, Great Vintage, Great Prices - Jewelry is Awesome too!

Cons: Not open on Mondays

i love this place! Happened to pass by on a saturday night with my boyfriend only to discover one of the coolest places. They have a cool bar with cheap drinks, a projection screen showing old movies, and sometimes djs. We had to go in and check it out. The staff is super cute and friendly. This place has such a good energy throughout - comfortable, warm and inviting. Got some drinks and worked our way through the store. In the designer co-op part of the store -- a great selection and diversity of designers -- I wanted to buy something from each designer! We worked our way through the bar to the downstairs and it's like a candy store for vintage and second-hand clothing. The best part is that everything is reasonably priced! I scored a killer cute vintage dress for $12 and my boyfriend found a really cool vintage western shirt for $20. This place is awesome!

Pros: great designer and vintage finds, good prices, awesome staff, yummy drinks, good music and ambiance

Cons: drunken shopping not recommended (sike! it's great!)
