Trendy & loud... but the food, wine selection & service makes up for it – 8:30pm on a Thursday night my friend and I were seated without a reservation and without a wait. Our waitress was wonderful as were the other staff. Wine list was well chosen, even the dessert wines. We had the crab and avocado appetizer which was phenomenal, as was the risotto with ramps, fresh peas and prosciutto. After such filling appetizers we decided to split the burger which was extremely juicy and flavorful. Unfortunately while the desserts were definitely edible they were not memorable and next time we'll be saving our calories. We had the lemon tart with lemon sorbet and the peanut butter parfait. Left a lot to be desired. In agreement with other reviewers in terms of the loud atmosphere but I don't feel that it took away from the dining experience.
LONG Wait but great food – Just like many of the other reviews on here don't arrive thinking you will be seated right away. I came here with my girlfriend on a saturday night and we probably wait about 1 1/2 hours or so to be seated. We wound up having a few drinks at the bar and not really worrying about it. Its a little crazy in that area so if that's not your cup of tea, I wouldn't come here. Once we were finally seated the food was incredible and the service was great. It has a nice atmosphere. If we had been seated sooner I'd give it a higher rating but if you don't mind having a few drinks first definitely check this place out.
extremely disappointing – waiting 1 1/4 hrs for our reservation
atmosphere like a bar not a high end restaurant
would not recommend
Overcrowded and overhyped - and you'll wait 2 hours... – After making a late 9:30pm reservation, we were finally seated by 10:45pm. We were repeatedly told that we were about to be seated and that people at our table were simply paying. I would have believed this explanation if it weren't for the fact that we were seated about 45 minutes after. This simply spoiled the entire evening. Normal restaurants typically comp a free round of drinks or a free dessert but no apologies were made. Even after pointing out to the waitress that we waited 105 minutes to be seated, no apologies were given. Not one, "I'm sorry". I will say that the food was very good. I ordered the steak, and while it would not compare to any top steak restaurant in the city, it was fairly good for $27. The oysters, which was a special appetizer for the night, was nothing special. At the end of the day, take this restauarant for what it is. Its the place to go for now, because everyone says its great and this is where the beautiful people go. In about 6 months, this place will be long forgotten and will be replaced by yet another overcrowded, overhyped experience a few blocks away. Good luck. On a side note, why is this place rated 4 1/2 stars when you have just as many 1s as 5s. Interesting...
Awesome food, great service – I went to Kingswood with 2 other friends and without a booking, we waited about an hour, but it was fine as the bar area is just awesome. Being an Australian, I was looking forward to having a meal at a New York restaurant owned by Aussies, so I went in with high expectations, and let me tell you, they were definitely met! Awesome food - the Risotto was out of this world, so so tasty, and my Steak was just as good, my friends loved their meal as well, and with only five days left in New York - I will definitely be going back before I leave! Nothing to complain about from me - wow... thanks for a great feed!
KingsWOULD like to eat there every night if I could! – I've been to this restaurant 2 times in 2 weeks & have yet to be disappointed. Everything from the ambiance to the food is so extraordinary that I truly can't find anything to complain about. The first time I ordered the crab linguini as an appetizer & the chicken for my entree--both were superb....so much so, that the next time I went I ordered the linguini as my entree. The mussels are also awesome as well as the burger. Overall, a really trendy place that I will be frequenting as often as I can. Oh, & be sure to dress the part at this place--no A.B. allowed.
say what? – blah? so very mediocre and set up as a real restaurant, i thought it was a joke of all sorts really. what the fuss?
Must try. – The place is absolutely fantastic. I've been there a few times and the food is always amazing and delicious. The service is great, always have a great time there.
+ the Burger, - the crowd – I used to come here when it was Jefferson, space still pretty much the same, only simple changes to the decor. But it looks pretty. Well, I think we made a mistake of going on a weekend. Kingswood was completely crowded. The crowd - a bit disappoitning. Very upper east side youngin's, but if thats your thing, then go. Ivanka Trump and the Johnson & Johnson heiress were there. But, I'm not a papparazo, so enough of that. Now the important stuff: the food. I must say, very good. The burger and fries was simply divine!! The Ruby's Bronte bruger has like a sweet relish on the burger and comes with truffle fries. Seriously delish!! I don't, however, recommend the oysters. The east coast were ok, but the kumamoto's well, they were just wrong (I personally thought they were an ill bunch). The rest of my party was also pleased with the food and the prices are reasonable for nyc. If the wait for our table wasn't so long and the crowd more subtle, I would have given 4 stars. I would recommend going on a weeknight to enjoy the food in, well, a state of harmony.
new favorite – I live right next to Rubys in Soho, where the food is always good (the Bronte is literally the best burger in NYC). Rubys is a tiny place and it is more like a neighborhood cafe with a really cool crowd. When the same guys opened Kingswood, I could not believe it. From the small neighborhood cafe to a top NYC restaurant. The place is amazing. The crowd is very cool and most importantly the food is delicious and everything is reasonably priced. I disagree with the other reviews that complained about "rudeness". The couple times I went there the owner as well as the host were very nice to us. It also doesnt hurt to wait at the bar, since the atmosphere is so cool. We have had the bronte, the cod and the mushroom risotto. All were very good. In any case, stop reading this review, get your friends and go there.
