Fabulous Hair Color & Cut. as soon as i entered the salon i felt at home---everyone is very happy and up in the salon and not in a phony way---my highlights and cut and blow-dry did not take forever and came out so so so good--i walked in ugly and walked out really gorgeous-- the people were all wonderful--it was a good experience--i felt like i could stay all day'
Dont get your hair relaxed here. I read about this place in a Hair Relaxing article in the Health Magazine. I was charged 300$ and my hair looks exactly the same as it did before the relaxing ( frizzy and wavy). I asked for a refund and they gave me all sorts of excuses saying it doesnt always work and it's not supposed to take off frizz or waves (I told them you should have told me this before since you say you are hair experts, I would never have got it done then in the first place). I have got my hair relaxed 5 times till now and each time it has come out silky smooth and lasted for 5-6 months and I never paid more than 150$. This didnt even stay for a day! If Id wanted it to be blowdried for a couple of days I would have paid 50$ and gone somewhere else! If you are looking to get your hair relaxed and havent been here before I would suggest going someplace else. Basically I paid $300 for the same hair I had before. Now I have to go somewhere else pay again and get it done.
Finally, a fantastic UES neighborhood salon. Desperate for a haircut, and having run dry on reliable recommendations from friends, I scoured the internet this morning in search of a salon 1) I could walk to on the UES 2) was not part of the overpriced and frenzied Madison Ave factory salons and 3) that would not cut my long hair into "edgy" (read: choppy, scraggly) layers. I liked what I'd read on various websites about Simadi, so I called the receptionist and explained that I wanted a hairstylist who liked long hair and did not want to mutilate it. The very sweet receptionist was not at all put off and simply responded "we don't do that here" with such conviction I immediately believed her and booked an appointment. As I walked into the salon, I immediately felt at ease-- the high ceilings, huge windows and simple but chic decor reminded me of a cool and comfortable townhouse rather than a busy salon. Two adorable pooches (the owner's) lounged in the waiting area next to a basket of dog toys. I knew right away this was not going to be the pretentious type salon you had to dress up for. Vlad took me to his chair and listened intently while I ticked off my complaints about former hairdressers. I have long, fine, full hair with (overprocessed) highlights, with the tendency to "puff up" without layers, but to "frizz out" with too many. After my diatribe, I waited for him to suggest the same just-past-the-shoulders, piecey cut every hair dresser seems to give me. But no, Vlad actually listened to me and did not scold me for wanting to keep length on my hair. Nor did he attempt to lecture me about the "integrity" of hair . Wow. Without sacrificing length, Vlad managed to make my mushroom of hair look sleek and Breck-girl full, the layers invisibly blending into the rest of the hair. For once, I did not look like I had a "haircut", I just looked like I had great hair. Finally, I've found a salon worthy of taking the time to write a review, thanks guys!!
