BEST LASAGNA EVER!!! – I just received my WESTCHESTER'S BEST MAGAZINE and it seems Thomas Stone Won "Most Unique Restaurant" Looks like everyone else is loving the Stone Cooking in Tuckahoe. We had dinner there on a Friday night it was packed. The Music was great and we ordered off the stone menu "prepared by the chef" I had a stuffed chicken dish and my husband had the lasagna we both loved the food atmosphere and the musicians. Not everyone is going to love it like we did but I suggest everyone give it a chance.
Just What Were They Thinking?! – i imagine this is the type of place you go to check out ONCE, and probably never return. I cant say for sure but i think that every sauce was from a jar, as nothing seemed homemade at all. everything was, as the waiter said, 'different', including a hamburger that was more like a giant meatball on an english muffin. every item on the menu had quite catchy names and descriptions, like 'lava' with herb dusted this and that, but call it what you will, there is no hiding poor quality and preparation. i actually felt as if i had been violated! putting a few pieces of overly marinated chunks of low grade beef on a skewer along with a couple of chunks of cheddar cheese, and being told you can cook it yourself, and "people like to eat the burned cheese off the stone was kind of like being at a ten year old's birthday party, and waiting for the clown to pop out from behind the curtain, but sadly, none did. for a moment my date and i thought we were the victims of a cruel practical joke! i must say though, that the decor was well done and the pianist played beautifully. i am told that dessert is very good, but unfortunately we could not tolerate another moment of this "experience" and had to leave before trying any. with the economy being what it is today, there is just no excuse for this sort of thievery. (also, you will ruin your clothes, and smell like the catch of the day as the hot stone splatters all those wonderful cooking juices all over your suit.)
Nice try in a sleepy village – We ate there last night, a Saturday night, only five or six other tables were taken. They featured a live jazz piano and singer, she sounded great, however, she was in a separate enclosed room with windows. She could not be seen from the dinning floor except by perhaps one or two tables. The big attraction was the 'stone' cooking which is not worth the trouble, food comes out half cooked and you have to finish cooking it on a hot rock. Doesn't make it taste any better, just a distraction to an evening out with a friend or spouse. Quality of food was fair, nothing special going on, my appetizer which contained cheese which was melted on one side and not on the other. I didn't go with the cook it yourself and ordered the mahi mahi instead, which was over cooked. It was supposed to be blacked and finished in the oven with a pineapple glaze, the pineapple juice was on the plate and the vegetables and potato sides were soaking in it as well. We also had the cook it yourself shrimp, it was generous in portion size, dusted in unimpressive spices and came with a choice of dipping sauce that was also unimpressive. The highlight of the dinner was the desert, a chocolate fondant, it was excellent. It is fair to say the wait staff was friendly and helpful though they seems somewhat board. We walked out knowing that we would not be back.
