Editorial Review for D'Or – by Lucy Cohen Blatter
In Short
Set in a former carriage house, original distressed brick and stone walls give this underground hot spot a cavernous feel. But a lot has changed since the 1800s: Today, a crystal chandelier hangs from the site of a former coal shoot, a floating staircase covered in Italian tiles descends into the main room, and 20-somethings in stilettos occupy a space once reserved for equines. Chocolate-colored leather banquettes seat the young, rich and beautiful clientele that comes to dance to the DJ's popular tunes and sip high-priced cocktails. Looking around, you'd swear you were downtown.
Hits: To his credit, owner Greg Brier has eschewed minimalism in favor of fusing more textured and interesting European and American design aesthetics.
Misses: .You may find yourself hard-pressed for a place to sit unless you're willing to cough up some serious cash--especially on the weekends, when banquettes are reserved exclusively for the bottle-buying set.

Insider Tips
Food ServedThanks to Amalia (the hotel eatery), the lounge offers an extensive bar menu. Choices include an Amalia cheese plate, lamb meatballs, crispy calamari and lobster pizza. The full upstairs menu is also available at the bar.
Know Before You GoTable reservations and bottle service (starting at $300) are highly recommended, but even hotel guests are not guaranteed admission--like its elitist counterparts to the south, entry is always up to the doorman's discretion.
Save MoneyThe lounge features an "executive suite," which is really just a fancy name for happy hour. Discounts are available for whatever drinks the bartenders choose to whip up from 5pm to 7pm, Tuesday through Friday.
What To DrinkIf you don't feel like dropping $300 on a bottle, try one of the interesting cocktails, like a Metaxa Sidecar (made with Metaxa brandy, Citronage and fresh lime juice) or a Demeter (Miller's gin, elderflower cordial and fresh black cherries).

serious attitude and problems with racial issues at the door!.......you spend 2 grand at the place, and bouncers are absolute knuckleheads, and think you owe them a drink, and an ego massage. the interior design reflects class, but the people who work there don't, except the waitress who was charging my account with a smile.
Pros: nice interior.....
Cons: everything else.......!

The bouncer beat up my friends! They will probably be shut down soon anyway because the bouncers there have criminal records and are under surveillance. If you are a woman, please be very careful because the large bouncer by the door is known to have chased women down the block when no one was looking!
