This New York bar and lounge-like hot spot beckons a young crowd in off Midtown's streets to enjoy a generous selection of cocktails and upscale bar fare. Located within the Amalia restaurant and Dream Hotel, this New York lounge offers patrons cavernous spaces, chandeliers and a floating staircase in addition to eats such as lamb meatballs and lobster pizza. In Short – Set in a former carriage house, original distressed brick and stone walls give this underground hot spot a cavernous feel. But a lot has changed since the 1800s: Today, a crystal chandelier hangs from the site of a former coal shoot, a floating staircase covered in Italian tiles descends into the main room, and 20-somethings in stilettos occupy a space once reserved for equines. Chocolate-colored leather banquettes seat the young, rich and beautiful clientele that comes to dance to the DJ's popular tunes and sip high-priced cocktails. Looking around, you'd swear you were…

Worst experience in NYC

by nycplanner

If you are looking to have your birthday party at a fun place in NYC where you won't run into problems with the bouncers and management then this IS NOT the place!

I held my birthday party here on a Saturday and it was the worst experience I have ever had at a club in NYC. First, I was told that I could have 175 plus guest at the party, but when I arrived they wanted to cap it at 150. After talking with management I got it capped at 170. Second, I was suppose to have the upstairs area available only to my guest from 10:00 PM - 4:00 AM, but they started letting people into our area at 1:00 AM. Third, the bouncers were EXTREMELY rude with me and all my guests, even make some of my male guests wait outside for more females to arrive before they were let in! Fourth, all my guests were supposed to get in free all night, but they started charging them $25 after midnight. The bouncers are rude and management is sketchy. I will never go back to D'Or again, nor would I recommend it as a place to hold any private party.

Rude Security

by kathleenpember

I decided to plan my 28th birthday at D'or after a few friends recommended it. For the most part I would say every thing ran smoothly. But I would like to make the comment on how rude the security staff outside were. Not only did they get loud at my friends for no reason. They were giving attitude to me and my friends when we arrived there. It was really unprofessional and turned me off from going back there again. It's a shame cause D'or is such a nice place.

Not bad, not great... just OK

by callmezo

I was there on the Saturday for Valentines Day. The DJ was great, playing good music (good to me anyways) but most people were dancing around. it was way crowded around the bar/dj area, but the second room/space was quite empty. Younger mid/late 20s crowd. I would go back if I had to, but wouldn't be a first choice, but wouldn't be upset either.

  • Pros: good DJ, friendly bartenders

The Details on D'Or

Food Served:

Thanks to Amalia (the hotel eatery), the lounge offers an extensive bar menu. Choices include an Amalia cheese plate, lamb meatballs, crispy calamari and lobster pizza. The full upstairs menu is also available at the bar.

Know Before You Go:

Table reservations and bottle service (starting at $300) are highly recommended, but even hotel guests are not guaranteed admission--like its elitist counterparts to the south, entry is always up to the doorman's discretion.

Save Money:

The lounge features an "executive suite," which is really just a fancy name for happy hour. Discounts are available for whatever drinks the bartenders choose to whip up from 5pm to 7pm, Tuesday through Friday.

What To Drink:

If you don't feel like dropping $300 on a bottle, try one of the interesting cocktails, like a Metaxa Sidecar (made with Metaxa brandy, Citronage and fresh lime juice) or a Demeter (Miller's gin, elderflower cordial and fresh black cherries).
