What People Are Saying About Bacaro

Behind its glass facade, this candle-lit Italian wine bar and restaurant (from the team behind Nolita favorite Peasant) proffers a menu of delectable edibles and a nice selection of--surprise, surprise--Italian wines. On the ground floor, scarf-clad 20- and 30-somethings occupy large, medieval-style wooden tables, but the prize seating is in the basement, a cavernous dungeon filled with hidden corners to get romantic. The menu offers a spin on traditional Italian dishes, with standout apps like spicy meatballs and asparagus topped with a baked egg, and sumptuous entrees like whole wheat pasta…
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- Bacaro doesn't take reservations, so there's no way to guarantee you'll snag one of the private caverns. Get there before or after the prime-time rush to minimize the wait.
- The Extras:
- Desserts include an assortment of homemade sorbets and a divine tiramisu.

A charming menu of Italian-influenced dishes
by MichelleFatima
A charming menu of Italian-influenced dishes includes a meat and cheese plate, gnocchi in a mushroom sauce and a pork shank. No plate exceeds $20 and most can be easily adapted into a full meal, should drinks turn into dinner
Intimate ambiance, good food - definitely worth trying at least once.

Beautiful small restaurant. Charming, warm and intimate - very rustic, exposed bricks, candles and wood. Not the trendy scene for people watching, best to go on a date. Food was good. Their octupus potato salad aptz is very much worth skipping - there were three octopus pieces in the whole thing, but only $9. Both their polenta and risotto dishes were fantastic! We ate at the bar, to observe and to get a feel for the place from the bartender - he was very attentive, after warming up a bit. Overall, it was great, definitely worth trying at least once, you wont be disappointed.. you may even fall in love. It wont break your bank. No reservations.
- Pros: intimate ambiance, resonable prices for food, pretty good wine
- Cons: no reservations, a bit out of the way
