Editorial Review for Momofuku Noodle Bar – by Michele Hughes
The Scene
Though this hectic noodle nook has moved down the block, the airy space retains the unified light-wood walls and counter seating of the old location, and a larger capacity helps ease waits for a table. Good news, as the place is still chock-full of nattily dressed East Villagers, citywide trekkers and the odd slurping celeb, all tended to by an unruffled staff.
The Food
Chef David Chang strikes some of his most vibrant notes in the openers, such as pork buns whose sweet dough plays off the flavor of the tender, luxuriantly fatty meat. Tart accents add snap to fresh oysters with pickled lemon, and smokiness has its day in the fantastic, Southern-tinged dish of full-bloomed shrimp, creamy grits and bacon. By comparison, the enormous ramen bowls taste subdued but are still rewarding. Pork, duck and other meats meld into the hearty, full-bodied base, making for fragrant mouthfuls of noodles, poached egg and, in another soulful twist, mellowed collard greens.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkAmong the small selection of sakes, Masumi is an exceptional, dry but rounded variety that can be ordered by the glass ($11).
Local FavoriteNo reservations are taken and the space fills up early, so you may need a drink around the corner at Company.
Know Before You GoThere's only one nonmeat noodle dish--so this isn't the place for your veggie date.
The ExtrasVisit Chang's spin-off, the more experimental Ssam Bar.

I've eaten here twice, once for my birthday and the other on a Friday night spur of the moment decision. I would say it's best for a small group of people who really, really like pork and don't mind waiting to be seated or being in a very loud atmosphere. What I did have, I liked a lot -- the pork buns and the Momo ramen, both times -- but the buns were on the fatty side. For a larger group or a time when you'd like to have an intelligible or meaninful conversation, I'd go somewhere else.
Pros: Good food, an adventure in competitive dining
Cons: Not good when you're tired or want to hear your dining companion speak

Had very bad experiences here a few times. Its my fault for trying. Although the food is good, not the best. I love noodles and I think their other stuff are much better. The service is so robotic, and long. it took 35 mins for our soups to come out. yikes!! the other time they brought out one and didn't bring out the other one for another 10 minutes. You hear so much about the chef chang, but where is it coming from? no good.
Pros: salad
Cons: service
