Find another moving and storage company. I used Shleppers to move my things into storage and then stored then for a couple of years. The move into the storage went smoothly and the guys were great. However, on the move out (just putting the stuff in a U-haul) these others guys were just racing and were rough with my things. They swapped out their furniture blankets for the ones I had rented from U-haul and ended up damaging an expensive piece of furniture. They paid little attention to what they were doing as there is damage in several places to that piece of wooden furniture. Now all the edges are roughed up from them basically just flipping it over in the U-haul truck as they swapped blankets. They also paid no mind to boxes that had weakened in storage and put heavy boxes on top of ones that were already damaged (and marked Fragile). It was all about the speed and no concern over protecting my things.

I also had numerous issues with their accounting department. I even got an invoice after I had closed out my storage account. They can never get their computer system right. They also frequently billed me on my free months. My agreement was that every fourth month was free, but most of the time I had to track it myself and email them to correct their errors.

The contract they sent me by email to sign differed from what they gave me when I showed up with my stuff. They did not disclose in the email contract that you are charged for accessing your stuff. After my first visit where I added more things to storage they wanted to charge me $70. This was totally unexpected and involved months of going back and forth disputing the charge.

I do not trust their business practices and will never trust them with my belongings again.

I could not have been happier with Shleppers. I am a pretty picky customer overall so I was worried, as I always am before every move. But I was quickly reassured. The foreman was great and gave great direction to his movers. They sent 5 guys so they move went relatively quickly. The crew members were extremely efficient but also very helpful and willing to try a couple furniture set ups before we settled on the right one. All my stuff was carefully and professionally handled, arrived intact, and my place got set up very well. Highly recommend.

In the midst of a busy weekend, Schleppers twice found the time and heart to donate trucks to help victims of hurricane Sandy. Their drivers were incredibly professional, and despite this being an entirely volunteer job, helped move tons of food to affected areas.

I got a great chance to see how the company operates, however. They were extremely communicative via cell phone as they were getting to the sites, arrived at both the pickup and destination exactly when they said they would, and were able to be flexible when we reached our destination to add two other sites.

You could just tell that everyone from the owner of Schleppers, who came to help assemble the food kits with his family to the dispatch and drivers were genuinely good people who really cared, and I think it's a safe assumption to make that they take this much care in every job they have.

I've had some pretty hairy moving experiences over the course of my 25 years in NY, but I would use Schleppers as a #1 choice based on this experience. I am not a big "reviewer" of things on citysearch but this experience was so outstanding that I think it's worth knowing about. I will definitely post about them for my next move too. Thanks guys.

I was actually shocked about how fast and efficient the men who came to my apartment to move me were. They handled my furniture with care and were very friendly. I kept telling them why didn't I think of that when they were wrapping and moving my belongings. It made all of my stresses of moving disappear. I highly recommend Derek and the Shleppers team to anyone who needs to move.

In a recent Hurricane Sandy Relief initiative, I reached out to Shleppers to see if they would be interested in donating a truck for the day to help us deliver food and other necessities to people in Far Rockaway. On very short notice and

without hesitation, Shleppers donated a large truck and helped us deliver food and critical supplies to people in Far Rockaway. Their driver Abdul was incredibly kind and helped us lift heavy items (when it really was not his job) and fully load the truck to the brim with donations.

Less than a week later, we decided to make another large donation and contacted Shleppers again, since they had been so helpful and wonderful to work with the first time. When I reached out (on less than 24 hours notice) and told them that we were going to do the same donation run again, they said, "How can we help?" Once again, they agreed to assist us. Since we had been so pleased with their driver Abdul, we requested his help again. When Shleppers arrived the next day, they didn't only bring one truck and Abdul, but also brought us another truck just in case we needed it. We are forever grateful for their help.

As a side note, I will share that one of Shleppers' partners decided to volunteer with us on that second day and brought his entire family. When we had a moment to talk, he told me that they had been donating trucks everyday that they could in the aftermath of the storm. To me, the donations of their services and their time speaks volumes about the people who run this company. Shleppers was professional and reliable and I would highly recommend them. I will also note that it's really special to be able to work with such a nice group of people, and I would give them my business any day.
