“Besides the update in decor, this is one of the worst additions to the Upper West Side over the past 2 years.”
“we really love this bar.”
“They also have great food!”
“It's a great place to watch a game.”
“The bartenders' are friendly, courteous and plenty efficient when it comes to getting what you want.”
“Instead, we were introduced to a stuffy bar filled with a bunch of wall street guys looking to talk about their expensive homes, fast cars, and italian suits.”
I love Soldier McGee. I love Soldier McGee! I've been there several times and have always left wanting more. It's a great place to watch a game. It's clean and I love the open space. The jukebox is awesome and there is always a great crowd. Try the macaroni and cheese wedges they're a perfect pair to the icy cold draft beer. I don't often find myself on the UWS but when I do McGee is the place I go.
Sports and suds are the main draw at this Upper West Side spot..
In Short
A mostly local crowd of yuppie 30-something professionals and local sports fanatics schmooze before, during and after the game at this lively tavern. With eight 50-inch flat screen TVs, a pool table, dartboard and video boxing game, Soldier McGee is for those who like some entertainment with their booze. There are 20 beers on tap and a menu of snacks and appetizers, so even if you do decide to sit still, you won't be disappointed.
Hits: While sports fans will enjoy watching the game, the laid-back vibe will appeal to everyone. Plus, it's open later than most of the other bars nearby.
Misses: It's hard to differentiate this from the countless other sports bars that line Amsterdam Avenue; pick a bar, any bar.
UWS Top Spot. Can't say enough about this place. Was there for two different games so far this year. Awesome draft system and some very hot bartenders. Was there with a lot of people and the staff was really nice. Many HD screens, so was able to watch every game. Good crowd. I will definitely be back. Cool jukebox.
why doesnt anybody invite me to anything????. I work with grassi and everybody loves me...i just dont get it. i saw that humongous basketball player bonk his head on the support beam i hope he is ok.
the beer is good but I LOVE THE KOOL-AID. The draft kool-aid is SO tasty. I drink it, i chug it, i love it. Highly recommended. I also love the owner, he's just so smart, cool, funny, cute, beautiful ..... he rules!
i will only go here if they start playing NC basketball games in a continuous loop. im huge, im bald, and im angry.......i love good food--fast women--and open toed shoes. bottom line....this place is ok. the next time i come in and see dave and billy talking about everybody in the corner im going to smash the both of them... beer is cold which is all that counts....
the guy that owns this place is a really good driver, is allways on time, ..and has a nice car. i also think that the place is pretty cool...billy and i go there all the time and talk about everybody....i dont drink beer but the wine list is topshelf...no franzia here boys and girls...
the bathroom in this place is so clean its ridiculous. im telling you... bathrooms and gel are what im all about....the beer is ice cold too at this place...it seems like they clean this john like every 10 minutes....billy is right...the brothers that own this place run a class act....i run the ny eskimo/american club and we have our meetings here like every tuesday and stuff....
Avoid this place like the plague. I can't begin to describe how bad this place is. My boyfriend took me there over the summer to watch a game and I hated it. I think Jimmy254 said it best. Besides the update in decor, this is one of the worst additions to the Upper West Side over the past 2 years. I met a guy there who claimed to be part-owner. He seemed like a nice guy at first, but he proceeded to talk about himself for the entire night. He even tried to pick me up with my boyfriend standing 5 feet away. When my boyfriend confronted him he ran behind the bar like a scared little kitten. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else.
no place is bettah than brooklyn but....... if you have to have a cold beer someplace other than bensonhurst...this is the place to do it....food is better than ok but ill tell you something....they have a sfogliatelle that melts in your mouth...and the espresso with a twist of lime is something that would make you cry about....like listening to pavarotti on a warm spring evening.....what a beatufigul life!!
