Good for a quick lunch.

by ViennaD at Citysearch

My chicken salad sandwich on grain bread with side salad was very good. The plastic cover of the menu needed cleaning, and I felt the place overall needed a bit of sparkle. Waiter was friendly and attentive. For lunch, it hit the spot.

  • Pros: Prices very reasonable.
  • Cons: Lacking atmosphere.

Nasty delivery! Terrible $15+ burger..

by jobot at Citysearch

I ordered an 8 oz. angus burger and was sorely disappointed. I can get over the fact that fries will get soggy when delivered, especially when delivery takes 50 minutes for a few blocks away, but I could not get over the over-dry, hockey-puck "burger" that smelled and tasted gamey. It was a solid brick of clumpy, tough meat that I longed to have fall apart moistly in my mouth, at least giving me the illusion that it came of a grill...Sigh.... I have a hard time believing that this burger was anything but frozen and thrown in a microwave. Really disgusting. Go to Corner Bistro, or VICEROY instead and get what you are paying for and more.

Also, Vynl is impossible to keep at the forefront of my mind as the menu is impossible to keep up with! They some how end up taking off all of their redeemable dishes like the sesame noodles with peanut sauce and the fried chicken and end up adding more greasy, cheap and unsatisfying bar snacks. Skip this place and go to the cheaper and delicious facsimile, Zemi on 18th and 9th.

  • Pros: inconsistent menu
  • Cons: Yucky food, long wait for delievery, menu changes too often

Food Bad - Service Good

by macnyc at Citysearch

Have eaten here 3 times over the past few months - no longer. The friends I brought with me last time just hated the food. Hamburgers overcooked. Chicken sandwich was like cardboard. Fries were cold and soggy. I have eaten at the other Vynl's and the food was ok - this location needs a new chef.

  • Pros: Good place to meet for drinks
  • Cons: Bad place to eat

Below average food and very slow service...

by tunatacogrande at Citysearch

Stopped in tonight for dinner. Service was very slow (I think they are understaffed). The food was rather boring and bland. I had a breakfast burrito and it was a bit dry. Also, took very long to get our check after asking for it twice.

It wasn't terrible, but definitely below average for the area. Plenty of better options on 8th Avenue.

  • Pros: Lively Atmosphere
  • Cons: Slow Service, Bland Food
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Kitsch in the dining area but not in the Kitchen

by stenro at Citysearch

So far, 3 visits and 3 times very satisfied.

The idea of this place is to be a little kitschy but it's OK because they know it. It may look somewhat like a diner, but is much more. (The tongue-in-cheek Justin Timberlake bathroom is a must-see!)

The food selection is always changing but consistently excellent. Everything is prepared and presented just right.

The portion sizes seem to be perfect and not overpriced at all (especially considering this is NYC.)

There is a full selection of drinks, a decent selection of wine and fairly good selection of tap and bottled beer.

Also, the neither the place itself nor the staff is pretentious in any way (another plus considering it's NYC.)

And another thing- where else can you eat that has music playing that is actually not too loud!

I honestly believe it's worth giving at least one try- most likely you'll want to go back. I have.

  • Pros: Great food and perfect portions at the right price.
  • Cons: Maybe the desserts?
