In Short – Most designer eyeglasses are actually produced by only one or two companies, meaning there's a reason those Prada and D&G frames look so similar. For the downtown scenster who absolutely must have one-of-a-kind everything, this chic shop (a narrow storefront with a pressed-tin ceiling and hardwood floors) stocks handmade frames from independent labels. The styles skew towards a more masculine aesthetic, so those looking for rimless or super-modern designs will be disappointed. Best Optical Shop Hands Down
by CherryBombny
This shop is so different from any other shop in the city. Their selection of the finest vintage sunglasses compliments the contemporary brands they carry. The mix of merchandise taught me what I should be looking for in a pair of frames that will last. My lenses came out perfect (I recommend this place wholeheartedly!
- Pros: Great frames, great vintage sunglasses, great owners
- Cons: Wish I'd have found it sooner!!!
Eyewear heaven in NY

In this shop all the merchandise is out for you to touch and try on. The staff (maybe the owners) are very helpful but not pushy. The encouraged me to try things on that I wouldn't have picked for myself. Once I made a decision on the frame, the lenses were completed perfectly within a few days and they adjusted the frame to fit my face perfectly. I didn't get a look at all the vintage sunglasses, but there were tons of people going through the sunglasses and it seemed pretty special too!
- Pros: Unique frames, great service, beautiful shop
- Cons: There isn't a shop in BK yet!
Great for eyeglass newbies and veterans
by BHpuppy
The best thing about Silver Lining Opticians was the service. I went in having never worn glasses before with no idea what I wanted. The owner helped me find many great shapes for my face and gave honest opinions of what worked best. Considering how clueless I was it was extremely stress free! I would definitely recommend this place to not only first time eye glass wearers, but also eyeglass veterans because the store had a large, varied selection.
- Pros: customer service, selection
