Great Personal Training Program. I have nothing but good things to say about Iron & Silk Fitness. This is a state of the art fitness facility that has great personal trainers to help you accomplish your goals of losing weight. I went in with about 20 pounds to lose. The friendly staff worked with me to determine what I needed to do to get the weight off and sculpt some of my muscles a little more. Now, I have a new appreciation for going to the gym and I’m in the best shape of my life.
JOIN IRON & SILK..
Iron and Silk is a true fitness community -- a very special and exceptionally rare find anywhere.
During one training session a few month back, Stu was telling me a bit about how it was when he was coming up as a boxer (I believe this was before the bodybuilding but not 100% sure): that colleagues rooted for each other; that rather than strutting or aggression, there was a sense of camaraderie and support; that when you really showed achievement/effort/heart, always someone there giving you props; likewise, when you were slacking a bit, someone was def going to kick you back on track.
Story stuck with me, because it is so obvious that this is exactly the kind of old-school atmosphere of support and guidance that Stu and Christina have worked so hard to create for the athletes, aspiring athletes and (like me!) at best "athlete hopefuls" that train each day at Iron and Silk. At its core, I think this comes down to two things:
1. There's no hiding in a corner at Iron and Silk. Full staff keeps in the loop on each member's progress -- so whether or not you train with, say, Hugh, Hugh is going to catch you and let you know if you're dropping the ball a bit. (Yup, don't join Iron and Silk if your plan is to merely PRETEND you are working out; lots of other gyms for that!)
2. Just as there is no slacking at I&S, there's also no a**hole-ishness. In every context, the atmosphere is always comfortable, accepting and welcoming, irrespective of one's level of fitness or skill.
In short, I&S rocks. I recommended it with highest confidence and without single reservation. And I'm in better shape than I have ever been in my life.
Great gym!. When my fiance proposed I realized our very happy year together had resulted in an extra 10-15 lbs on top of the 10 lbs I was already overweight. I wanted to join a gym with personal attention, that is small and where I wouldn't feel embarrassed to be overweight/out of shape. Iron and silk was the perfect choice. The husband-wife owners and all the staff (elite personal trainers) know every client's name and goals at the gym. The training sessions are amazing (and really hard) and when I come into the gym on my own the trainers still come over and tell me what to do to maximize my workout. The gym is very small but there is never a wait for machines. The other people who work out there are serious about fitness but also friendly. The classes are very small (max 6 people, but sometimes it's just me) so it feels like a personal training session as well. The price is not cheap, but it's about the same as David Barton, with the personal attention that no other gym can offer.
Best Gym if you're serious. I've been a member of many gyms over the years, and this gym has proven to be superior to all of them. It's friendly, no attitude, personal, no waiting for machines. It has elite trainers that show real interest in your progress, your food intake and daily routines. My options in the neighborhood were the YMCA, Dolphin, or Iron and Silk. Dolphin is cheap, but there you have 15 guys trying to do chest, and one duct-taped bench press. It's completely impossible to get any real workout done. With the free month you get from signing up for a year with Iron and Silk, it is pretty much the same price as YMCA. If you're serious about getting in shape, and can afford to get a few sessions with a pro trainer, I would say Iron & Silk is your best choice.
Over the River and Through the Village....
I am going to use one of the strongest arguments I can think of to convince any true Manhattanite about this gym: I go to Iron and Silk and I LIVE IN BROOKLYN.
Any true islander knows that to "cross the river' for anything, that anything better be good. I know this because I was once a true blue burough-centric purest, then i met a man, fell in love, moved - but that's another story. Point is no matter what, I would stay with my gym, and if i gave up my Manhattan for him he would join Iron and Silk for me. My boyfriend and I love being members of Iron and Silk so much because Stu and Christina (husband and wife owners) are the most genuine hosts we know. Writing this review feels like writing a pro for a family member. I personally have trained one on one with Christina for over a year. As I told my boyfriend, purchasing training packages is no longer a luxury, it is absolute necessity. I see her 1-2 times a week, nothing obsessive, but she is the perfect does of down-to-earth-ness?, positivity, and light that I think we all need some of in Gothem. Please before entering stale Dolphins, Equinoxes, NYHRC, or god forbid NYSC or something Crunchy go visit Iron and Silk and introduce yourself to Stu and Christina.
Perfect Name...Full throttled Workouts, Warm Atmosphere. This gym will never be on auto-pilot in terms of attention and training. The owners are beyond caring, attentive, inviting and warm (and you'll even see their wonderful children manning the desk from time to time), but rest assured, they can propel anyone, from pro to beginner, to a SERIOUS concentrated workout. I've seen everyone here from the local bodega owner to a few celeb. musicians/actors BUT there's no scene here, no pretension and the set-up has more of a no-silly-frills vibe...and there's no way not to get in better shape if you attend regularly. Really, this is MAYBE what some great gyms were like at first...before expansion and franchising.
This Gym is on Track--Your gym is whack.
This gym is the best gym I've ever known. The owners are positive, invested--and Professional athletes.
They know everyone's name, the classes are off the hook. The locker rooms are VIP, the machines are new, it's never crowded. It smells great , all the time.
The music is good,
its worth it,
its affordable!
Just go, check it out, you'll like it immediately.
The Real Deal. We all live in Manhattan, which usually means we've grown accustomed to being crammed into tight subway cars, dining in overcrowded restaurants, party in overcrowded clubs and many of us have experience what it is like to workout in an overcrowded gym. Personally, I can live with the first 3, but not the last one. Who wants to workout in a place where you can never get access to the best machines during prime hours? For those of you that have the same problem, Iron & Silk Fitness is your god-send! It's a gym experience like no other. To start, membership is limited to avoid overexposure, ensuring it's members will never have to wait on line again. As a result, the staff are able to give you personal attention and treat you like the individual you are. The classes are never full or overcrowded. The floor is always clean and the machines are immaculate. It's relatively new, so all of the machines are state-of-the-art. They have great deals to get you going, and since I've joined I've never been in better shape in my entire life. If you are sick of the same old gyms and live or work in the East Village, do not hesitate! You will be happy you did.
5 Diamond Gym. There is no need for you to look any further for an ULTIMATE GYM experience, really. Even if you don?t like working out you will inevitably learn to love to work out. IRON & SILK is a gym mecca for individuals who want to get in shape, stay in shape, and/or improve on their current workout regimen. The vibe of the gym is hip and chic and if you are a self-proclaimed ?germaphobe,? it is one of the CLEANEST gyms that I have ever worked out in AND you will see that they primarily use GREEN products (cleaning, shampoo, etc.). Moreover, the trainers are EXTREMELY knowledgeable and have a vested interest in helping you succeed. Your trainer will work with you to devise a workout plan, as well as a REALISTIC meal plan, tailored just for you!! Be prepared, however, you will work hard, but you will CERTAINLY be proud of yourself and will see the result you want. One of the things that set Iron & Silk apart from any other gym is the fact that the individuals who work here, either training clients or instructing organized classes, are athletes who have competed or currently compete in various national athletic competitions (i.e., Tae Kwon Do, bodybuilding, etc.) ? they truly are PROFESSIONALS. Iron & Silk receives a five diamond rating in my book! Are you still reading? If so, what are you waiting for? GET A MOVE ON and go down to the East Village and join the Iron & Silk community. You certainly don?t want to be left out and you will love everything about this East Village gem of a gym.
Best gym in NYC hands down.
I used to go to NYHRC, but switched to Iron & Silk on a recommendation from a friend.
Staff are happy, easy going, but when it's time to train they push you as much as you need to be pushed.
Equipment and facilities are spotless and immaculate - all machines are brand new.
Have no intention of using any other gym in NY even if I move out of the area.
