scamming on deliveries. We've ordered deliveries from them many times and only today discovered they are charging for items that normally are free of charge in restaurant: i.e. get this: lemon slices. Sounds ridiculous right? But, they put in a couple of slices as one would normally get for free in any restaurant and turns out they are charging an extra 1.00 per slice for that!! It's no different than a bank charging hidden fees each time you order. I never realized it til now. So, I brought it to their attention and the manager agreed they shouldnt have been doing it. But he refused to look back and see how often they had done it. So since we order weekly or 2x per week they likely had done it some dozen times. And because they knew I trusted them over time I hadn't checked the bills as carefully. He offered to reimburse 2.50 -- I asked reasonably he reimb 5.00 to take into account other orders - and given that we have charged 100's of dollars with them you wouldn't think that was too much. But he started yelling that I'm not permitted to choose how much he will reimburse and the most he would do is 2.50. Again ridiculous right? But it speaks volumes to their lack of loyalty to customers and to an underlying principal they think its okay to scam on deliveries. If they argued for that nominal amount when I've provided so much business then of course we won't deal with them again. But others should be very wary of what they charge. And I think others shouldnt eat there because the manager clearly didn't care about customers. He also said he was too busy to worry about my business which equates to 100's of dollars worth of business! Hm, scamming on deliveries is worth writing to the better business bureau about...
If you are Jewish-Beware of a small group of antisemetics!.
I was a great customer; often went with my family. A woman who is known as Big Bird or the warden at the bar by her peers had this personal vendeta against me. Be careful-If she doesn't like you her groupies follow. Her groupies are a crowd of transient New Yorkers; or those who have been here for years who are unsettled souls. It is a group of around 8 people. You will know who she is-the loudest person there.
Generally, was an amazing place but I became bullied over and over again which lead to verbal attacks on at least 4 occasions from cursing me out to anti Jewish statements. I spoke with at least three other people who have not stepped forward yet.
The food was great; drinks as well. However, the management did not deal appropriately with the verbal and potentially violent attacks on me. Really, on the upper west side?
With all the sushi places to go to, and all the competition, you would think that a place like this would value every customer. You thought wrong. I dined here the past evening, we were seated in a large back room that was empty, we wanted to sit in the front, which wasn't full, it seemed as though they didn't understand what we were requesting. Anyway, service was terribly slow, the sushi was not that crisp fresh taste, the rice was tasteless and mushy.
I will not be back!
Freshest sushi and best drink on the upper west side. I've been to amber several times and the food was phenomanal!! The bartenders are top rate and the speacility drinks are the most creative I've ever had!!
Friendly attentive service ,Great food, Huge docoration. Amber is one of my favorite asian - fusion restaurants on uptown manhattan, I absolutely love and very awesome this place. The decor is hip plus some romance, huge Budha in back dining room and the music lounge is one of the reasons why we keep on going back! Food and drinks are always consistent, which's hard to do when the restaurant is always packed on weekend (Filet Mignon Lettuce Wraps and cooktail Budha Kiss are must try it ! ). The sushi is wonderful, and the rolls are unique, fresh, and plentiful. Try the Angry Lobster roll, it's absolutely delicious. The service friendly and attentive in a way that you could tell no matter what table you're at, you won't be forgotten. Lunch, Brunch and dinner with friends--I highly recommend this place.
Fresh Sushi and this place rocks!.
My friends and I went to Amber last weekend and we loved it!!! First we had drinks at the bar: The awesome bartenders made some delicious drinks for us (You must try the "Budha's Kiss" --so good!). The food was delicious and super fresh. The servers were very friendly and attentive. And we loved the ambiance, too! There's an awesome statue of the Budha in the back room, not to be missed!
We are definitely coming back!!!
(FYI: The place is very popular, so make sure you make a reservation)
Cute Place, Avoid the Sushi. I have tried this place twice, place is cute, but the sushi is not fresh. When it happened the first time, I wrote it off for being a bad night, but when I tried it the second time, that sealed it for me. I have also tried some of the dishes from the kitchen, they tend to be oily, nothing special, and expensive for what it is. One good thing is that it is a good place to have a drink.
Sushi wasnt fresh. Pass by this place that seems to rely on their "cool vibe" than on being a restaurant. Ate here twice, first time I found the sushi to be less than fresh. I always give a restaurant a second chance. This time it was worse, the tuna was off color and very "fishy", needless to say I didnt eat it. I also didn't complain, and what surprised me that the dish went back untouched and no one asked me if there was a problem. Place is usually less than half full, and I am starting to realize why
Solid Sushi, Cool Environment. I went to Amber last night with a few of my girlfriends and was quite impressed. Very pretty ambiance and super comfortable seats - it is a small place so it's a bit squished but hey, it's new york - we are all used to that. I hate places where you have to ask for water, and you do here but overall that didn't matter. I had the indian pancakes with a curry dipping sauce (a random choice for japanese, i know) but it was awesome and then i had some crunchy, spicy tuna (excellent tuna) and also tried the spicy tuna and avacado salad (excellent) and the shrimp padthai (also delicious). Very affordable - regular rolls ranging 4 to 7 bucks; special rolls between 12 and 17 bucks and padthai around 15 bucks.
Sushi on the Upper West! Very Cool find. This modern restaurant is not something you see often on the Upper West Side- the food was inventive, fresh and very tasty. The cocktails were great and the price is right! I would definitely go back!
