Avoid Deans!!!!!

This was not our first visit to Deans, we had eaten there before and had a good experience but last night was the WORST!!!! Do they have new owners????

We got to the restaurant around 8:30 and it was practically empty but since it was a holiday weekend we just figured people were out of the city for the holiday. Our waitress served us some rolls with oil and when I asked for butter she said we do not serve butter with our bread. A little hard to believe, I asked another waiter can I please have some butter wih the rolls and listen to his answer. He said," We do not serve butter with our bread and he then went on to say that his manager informed him that he if he served butter with the bread he would be fired on the spot!' He said due to the ENORMOUS cost of butter, if they served it on the table Deans would have to go out of business. He was so rude I could not believe what I was hearing. I wasnt asking for caviar I was asking for a few pats of butter for one table. So I was already annoyed. Then we ordered pasta dishes that were literally the size of an appetizer. It was served in a bowl that you serve soup or cereal in. It was a real disgrace.and the food was not even good at all. So I then asked the waiter,"are you going out of business b/c these portion sizes are very small. He said that this is the size of a usual Manhattan pasta dish. He obviously thought we were tourists however I let him know we were New Yorkers and this is not the size of an average pasta dish in NY!

Also we own very successful business in lower Manhattan that strives to keep their clients happy with excellent customer service. Deans is truly lacking in customer service,portion sizes and has poor quality food. So if you want an enjoyable experience with good customer service, good food and nice size portions DO NOT EAT in DEANS. There are so many wonderful restaurants in NYC with good service and good food this restaurant is waste of time and money.
