The ultra-elitist Mercer Hotel basement lounge reopens, giving the cool kids of today a new Soho stomping ground..
In Short
Stumble upon the door bearing 147 ½ with an attitude that says you own the joint, get past the henchmen, take the freight elevator down, make two lefts, then a right. Turn the knob on the red unmarked door, and you're in. Low ceilings and exposed brick archways separate tiny alcoves, giving a cavernous feel to the subterranean space, but the mosaic tiled bar and uber-hip patrons remind you that you've been submersed into a den of coolness.
Hits: Unlike other hot spots, the SubMercer maintains a relaxed vibe with its dim lighting and clubby disco music--it might even make you forget just how cool you are, even if only for a moment.
Misses: The attitude is in-crowd, but the crowd itself isn't always up to par; you may find yourself mingling with the white v-neck-wearing Jersey set.
