Great spot for drinks. i love this place. either downstairs or upstairs its a great time. if you get a chance go see some of the bands too. cool spot run by a cool group. love all their bars.
Love this place!!. My friend and I just had a private party there, in the downstairs, and the place was amazing! Fast and friendly bartenders, very cool crowd... the party was a total success and super easy to book. When we booked the space it was really simple and all we had to do was show up and everyone got right in, plus we bought a bunch of drink tickets before hand which made are guests Very happy! Haven't been in the upstairs part on a weekend but, judging by the good time we had downstairs I'm sure the whole place is pretty wild on Fri. & Sat. nights. Check this spot out if your looking to book an event or party, email for info, that's what we did... and the staff really hooks it up!
Thanks for the props!!! Please call before you come in the next time and we'll be sure to greet with some house drink tix.
Great Music & Dancing, Until it Gets Packed.
This is one of my favorite places for a fun night out, drinking and dancing to great music (preferably 80's) with one exception:
When the downstairs is closed/rented for a private party, this is my least favorite place and I just walk away.
With that one exception, I would want to give this spot a great review.
The music selection really is excellent. The DJ's do a good job of keeping the energy high, string together lots of good songs, and not just playing overplayed songs.
The bartenders are funny and do their best to handle large crowds. The bar needs to keep a bigger staff on popular nights though.
The crowd is always out for a good night and it's easy to meet people.
I would recommend booking a private party in advance if you're looking to organize a celebration. Your gain & good time in the downstairs area might be directly at my expense, but you'll have fun. There's a big dance floor downstairs and a 2nd bar with open space, seating, and a view of the primary downstairs dance floor.
Thanks very much for this. We'll keep the "until it gets too crowded" very much in mind and try to slow down the input of people into the bar at that point if possible. We appreciate your business and nice words.
Friendly Staff & Management. I live around the corner from The Bowery Electric, I usually come in after work on weekdays for a drink. The bartenders are always funny, upbeat and a pleasure to chat with. I have met Diane (the manager) on several occasions and she has always been friendly and professional. So after seeing some negative reviews I wanted to post my own. From the door people to bar staff and management, I know most of these guys have been in New York for a long time, and know how to run a great bar/venue. I think if anyone had a bad experience here I have to conclude it's because they're new to the city, don't understand how to treat door staff (they are the ones letting you in!) and generally just amateurs to NYC night-life. It's sad when people come here and bad mouth staffers doing a good job just because they were to drunk, rude or both to have a good time.
Crowd doesn't fit the neighborhood. I live in this hood and the crowd here has become increasingly preppy and obnoxious. The East Village rock club vibe is gone. Now it’s a bunch of 19 year olds in popped collars & tube dresses. I came Saturday for a bday and was treated poorly at the door. I asked if the party was downstairs, she glared at me and said yeah, how many are you? Two. She said, when your whole party is here, you can go. My friend was next to me. She rolled her eyes and moved the rope. If you insist on lists and rules, don’t give people a hard time if they follow them. Bottom line: the space is really cool but there are better places for $8 drinks & loud music.
We have Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith band here on Feb. 11th, as well as Ivan Julian (Richard Hell & The Void Oids, and Matthew Sweet guitarist). We also have Jesse Malin performing 4 nights, The Postelles (3 night residency), Jesse Smith & Fermata, The Brahja Waldman's Quartet, She-Wolves (w/Sean Yseult of White Zombie) and many artists performing here weekly. We hosted a play last week with John Laguizamo. We had Wolfmother in August, John Spencer's Blues Explosion in September, Kevin Kinney, Mon Khmer(a great new band) and a Richard Hell album listening party. There are plenty of nights at the Bowery Electric where rock'n roll continues its age old tradition. If you join the mailing list, you'll get show updates, which might be more your style.
GREAT PLACE FOR A PARTY!. I reserved space downstairs at the Bowery Electric for my birthday. After a misunderstanding, I spoke with Diane, the manager, and our problem was resolved amicably. The music and space were great. Everyone had a really fun time! I can't wait to go back!
Pam did not want to submit her card information via email, so we made an exception. We called her the day before her party and left a message to please call back. We have documentation of the call. Upon arriving, Pam was upset that the card was declined. Her girlfriend intimated Pam was previously upset from an earlier dinner gone awry. In an attempt to please her, we gave her a free round of drinks; her table in the best area of the venue. We made an exception and allowed bottle sevice. Wefurther allowed 56 entry (though she reserved for only 35). It is possible that Pam read the wrong card number and there is possibility she read the right number and I wrote it down incorrectly. Whichever the case may be, we treated Pam respectfully. This past week, we received 10 calls for bookings from parties that are returning. Regular patrons come back every weekend. We have fun there and love the people who come in with positivity wanting to enjoy the music and the laughter.
Kick Ass Dance/Bar/Venue!. my friends favorite dance club and venue in the city and have been hearing about it from her for a year now- finally came to visit for her birthday and after dinner all of us went here and had the time of our lives. I will choose no other place to dance from here on out
Terrible. Once was fun, but this place has turned into another shitty, preppy pit of awful. Not only has the staff turned into complete a**holes, but they've switched management and it shows. If I could give anyone one piece of advice about this place, it's don't go.
Sorry you didn't enjoy yourself here. If there is something specific you want to share with the management please send a direct email to rockout@theboweryelectric.com. They appreciate the input.
Cool night spot. I went to a Birthday party in the downstairs function room. The venue is good and the dj was playing an interesting mix of rock and punk. I can't comment of the regular public bar but the function room leads me to believe it's worth checking out..
TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. This place has really made a bad move by hiring the new General manager Dianne. She is extremely unfriendly and RUDE and nothing like the manager Michael from when the bar first openend. I would not host a birthday party in this location -- merely to spite her. Even though the location is cool - the music is great- Dianne will be responsible for this place to loose a lot of future business.
