In Short
Take a cue from its namesake, the Italian municipality of Barbaresco, and indulge in la dolce vita. Chelsea locals, couples, and the after-work crew choose from more than 250 Italian wines, grouped by region, on a delightfully oversized menu. Aiming to please a mid-market crowd, there's no snobbery here. A standard $8 glass gives way to a variety of bottled options for around $30 to $40. A faux nod to Tuscany warms the four seating areas, while flat-screen TVs ensure that fans of sport and cinema can fill up in more ways than one.
Hits: The gleaming high-tech cruvinet (a wine preservation system) behind the bar keeps uncorked bottles fresh, allowing by-the-glass drinkers an opportunity to explore higher-end wines without shelling out the extra cash for a bottle.
Misses: With less than expert advise like, "the older one is probably better," some of the waitstaff could use more wine training, the lack of which which only compounds the difficulty of trying to navigate the menu's tiny font in the dimly lit room.

This was my first time at Bar Baresco. I was looking for a nice wine bar in Chelsea to go to on a Friday night with my boyfriend and that's just what we found. The ambience at Bar Baresco was intimate and the staff (John our waiter) was knowledgeable and very friendly. I was actually surprised how good the food was and my boyfriend loved the risotto. We can't wait to go back and would definitely recommend it to all of our friends looking for a great place for great wine and good food with friends.

We have been regulars at this wonderful restaurant and as a gay couple find it sad to see the slanderous comments against the place. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to us and our friends, the food delicious and affordable with a large gay clientele and everyone we send (gay or straight) loves it there. The manager and some of the staff are also gay and to read some of the comments here about gay discrimination seem to us to be an ineffective and dishonest way to resolve a dispute. Stop the hate and embrace hope, communication and understanding. :)

The comment below was written by the owner of the restaurant. ?privious review is rediculous?!?!? huh!?! What kind of English is that? I can hear the thick Italian accent while even reading it lol. It is true that this restaurant is homophobic, it?s sad to admit it. The manager is gay that is true but the owner isn?t and he is the one that has issues with his sexuality because he does look very gay but looks like he tries to mask his real sexuality by attacking gay guys. I have witnessed many homophobic events in this restaurant and I do not find hard to believe the comment below. Once I was kicked out because I was wearing a tank top in summertime. I pointed out that a girl was wearing a tank top too but the owner told me that she was a girl. Many of my friends refuse to go to this place and I would not suggest it to anyone. In fact I am not dining there anymore either. If you are gay and reading this you should also support our community and stop going to this homophobic place until they close it down. The owner?s name is Angel Nasty but I am not sure if it is his real name because it sounds made up. However, the last name suits him flawlessly!
