Italian dishes with some surprising twists at this Upper East Side newbie, from the man behind Spiga, Cacio e Pepe and Bocca.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- If the color green is your kryptonite, stay away; the wall hangings, chairs and floor scream the same bright shade of it.
- Fun Fact:
- The two in charge, Salvatore Corea and wife Gina, met cooking pizzas at La Berninetta.

So heres the thing! we tried alloro for restaurant week... $35 dinner...i got the eggplant parmesan ummmm...and then the shrimp w/ fettuchini was good...now as for the tiramisu (deconstructed) wow!
My husband loved his lamb chops!
really good food for mature palate. Attentive service... I can say enuf good things about this unpretentious place...i think if they updated their outdoor look...could do wonders for their business...
- Pros: AMAZING FOOD
- Cons: NONE
Good Food - Nice Service - Decent Prices

This is my week to try the newest Italian places in town and by the time I got here thought I'd be tired of Italian food in general. However I was pleasantly surprised by a number of things. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the food was delicious and the waiters could not have been nicer. They have an average wine list but overall would come back here next time I am on the Upper East Side. I am only sure that in time this place will only get better but for now I give it my thumbs up!
- Pros: Delicous food - Good Service - Fair Prices
- Cons: Not many can only get better but that's a good thing!
I'd take the train this far any night for Alloro

I came all the way from downtown Brooklyn to eat at Alloro, and it was worth the trek ten times over. The front-of-house staff are warm and welcoming, and the service is impeccable - the head chef even brings out the food himself on occasion, and sent free dessert and lemoncellos to our table. The Watermelon Ice with White Chocolate Mousse tasted more like watermelon than an actual watermelon.
Other highlights: thinner-than-paper fresh prosciutto and sopressata, coupled with taleggio and pecorino cheeses were a succulent appetizer; homemade arugula pesto had a slightly bitter and delicious flavor on the fusilli topped with pecorino cheese foam like a cloud that floated down from heaven; and the white veal ragu on fettucine dish (for only $16!!) tasted even better than it looked, and believe me, it was GORGEOUS.
Plus, despite certain reviews dissing the quirky green-and-black decor, I find it truly original. The chairs are so cool-looking - soccer-field-green with gold buttons up the side, and really comfortable! The place feels brand new, and is cleaner than a museum. It was an oasis from the chaos of the city, to which I plan to return as soon as possible, before everyone else finds out about it.
Excellent!!

ok, I just read the average review for this restaurant, so let me start by qualifying myself before I begin. I'm Italian-- and a food snob. I've been to Italy many times, and to France, and had some of the best meals in the world. I dont usually go out for Italian (because very few do it right), but after reading a press release on Alloro (Italians in the kitchen), we gave it a try.
Wine-- excellent.
Appetizers were great-- we had cheese and dried meats. (bravo, for putting a great selection on the menu).
Entree- best duck I've ever had in my life. Hands down. It was succulent, delicious. Unbelievable.
Pasta-- homemade in a rabbit ragu. Needed some salt or cheese, but otherwise very good.
Dessert was on the house (after we declined it) and it was a berry, custard, foam concoction (I'm not doing it justice), and it was out of this world!
The service was prompt, (the server a strikingly beautiful Italian man-- so that is always good). They were gracious, helpful, absolutely, positively did not try to oversell.
The chef came out at the end and I was honored to meet him. The sign of a good chef is one that cares about his customers and how they feel about the food.
The reviewer here who complained about the geriatric crowd (which by the way is offensive) is right in that there are older couples here, but my husband and I felt comfortable regardless. Because we were treated like guests of a home...
Perfecto!

Great Italian food. Creative and satisfying. Warm inviting setting with a very nice decor and effective lighting. Creative desserts including Blueberry Bavarian Cream with wild berries and lemon liqueur foam are to die for. I don't live near by at all yet it was a great experience, it was totally worth it!
