In Short – Chocolate Bar's East Village location is all 70s-inspired style. Their single chocolates, done by Andrew Shotts of Rhode Island and Gustaf Mabrouk, look too colorful to eat, but don't let that stop you. The Chocolate Bar has teamed up with famous graffiti artists from the late 70s and early 80s, graphic designers and toy designers to style the hip packaging on their sweet treats. Chocolate Bar also serves coffee, egg cream with espresso and their signature tea so you can enjoy a little caffeine buzz while you indulge your sweet tooth.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- The store's signature graffiti wrapped bars and decorated truffles make for great gifts--get a box for a friend, or for yourself.
- Know Before You Go:
- Yes, the name sounds like a double ententre, but don't come here to get drunk because they don't serve booze.

Their new space is AWESOME!

Chocolate Bar was in the West Village for 6 years and then lost their lease so moved across town. According to the staff there, the East Village didn't work out and they found this great spot back on 8th Ave (19 8th Ave, the address listed is wrong) across the street from their old place.
This location has great seating, views of trees and gardens out the back windows, and a bench on the sidewalk. But what I came for was the americano and a classic brownie. They are the best in the neighborhood. Especially their coffee. They may be a chocolate shop but the coffee is always consistent and amazing. The staff are not too "hipster", but friendly and know what they are doing. Congratulations Chocolate Bar! Welcome back!!
- Pros: best coffee & brownies
- Cons: closes at 10pm - wish it were open later

Chocolate Bar is awesome and Alison Nelson is the real version of superwoman.
She is an amazing wife and mother and completely puts the rest of us to shame, especially now she has opened the new store in the west village! Crazy respect for this woman!
- Pros: Best Chocolate

Consistantly great coffee & ridiculously good chocolate bars
by brooklynmama
I am so happy that they opened on my block. I own a shop a few doors down and have been dying for a great cup of coffee that I don't have to walk blocks to get. The staff is friendly, the coffee is strong and the chocolate bars are rich and creamy. Definitely a must have spot.
