What People Are Saying About Convivio

In Short – When Michael White, formerly of Fiamma, inherited L'Impero in 2007 he inherited an aging clientele and somewhat fuddy-duddyish space. In summer of 2008, in an effort to truly make the place his own, he gutted and reworked both the menu and the room. The latter is now marked by a lighter, more Italiante design featuring shiny white walls and crimson banquettes; the former, by a $59 pre-fixe menu featuring a vast array of the chef's characteristically bold but balanced southern Italian dishes. The result was both a critical and commercial hit, resulting in a perennially…

- Know Before You Go:
- As at all of White's restaurants, while the antipasti and proteins are excellent, the real draw are the amazing pastas; forego your meat or fish therefore and use the third course for a second pasta if you know what's good for you.

Nice Italian Restaurant for a couple
by Rainbowseeker at Citysearch
I came over this place for a business lunch more than three years ago when it was L’Impero and the current Chef, Michael White was not there. I think Convivio was reborn to become a much nicer Italian Restaurant with Southern Italian flavor to provide better foods and services to customers. The atomosphere was very much improved.
With one bite of Antipasto, I realized the Chef must have learnt his cooking in Italy or must be an Italian Chef because ingredients were a full of Italian stuff and the way of cooking was an original Italian. Since I do not want to spend a lot to a bottle of red wine, I hope they will collect more at price less than $150.

After living in New York for pretty much 10 years, I was embarrassed that I could not find this restaurant! What a gem. It's dark, welcoming and elegant, though it was very hot in there. You have to pump the air with that many candles lit. It took a long time for our waiter to help us, but once he did, service was great. We started out with the arancini appetizer, which is basically risotto croquettes. My god, unreal! My oriechette was good, but the portion size was very small. The gelati trio at the end was divine. I only wished it hadn't melted so fast because it was hot in there!
Overall, it's a great date spot and there is much attention paid to the food, wine, presentation, etc. Well done. With a few tweaks it could be amazing.
- Pros: Food, ambiance
- Cons: Temperature, portions
Hidden gem in Tudor City

My husband and I went here for a pre-Christmas dinner, and it was absolutely lovely. First, the room decor is really inviting. It's upscale, but it's not dark, maghony everywhere, like you're sitting a boardroom. It's very spacious inside with great colorful/ modern decor. Second, and most important, is the food. We had a 4-course menu and everything was fantastic. What I liked is that they're menu was very a-typical Italian, almost like Italian fusion. It was all very unique and delicious. Our server was very knowledgable about the food and was able to make great recommendations. We really enjoyed thsi place and will definitely be going back
- Pros: Food, Upscale ambience, Attentive Service
- Cons: nothing
Great Southern Italian Restaurant!

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because he loves italian food. We had an amazing experience here. The decor and ambiance was perfect for a romantic night out. The wine list was extensive and yet had some surprisingly tasty, yet affordable kinds. The prix fixe option was a really great deal, but probably too much food for two people to get. I would recommend the fusilli primi dish, this was an excellent dish! For my secondi, I had the prime skirt steak which was tender and thinly sliced and perfectly cooked medium rare. The pastry chef was equally as great as the main chef too! Make sure to save room for dessert =) Our entire meal came to an affordable $150, even though we left with extremely full stomachs! I highly recommend Convivio!
- Pros: Extensive wine list and prix fixe menu

This place is spectacular. I found the service was superb. Our waiter really knew the menu and tailored the food to fit our vegetarian lifestyle. And the food? AMAZING! Check out more of our review at www.urbanherbivores.
