The grandeur of the Plaza Hotel is perfectly preserved inside this stylish lounge, which features dramatic fuchsia lighting, dark mahogany wood walls, and gold-accented Louis XIV-style furniture. Ascend The Plaza's swanky marble steps to reach the U-shaped bar on the second floor, where tuxedoed waiters shake perfectly mixed (if pricey) premium cocktails, ranging from the classic Manhattan to creative new concoctions like the Hot Voodoo Love ($20)--a martini comprised of horseradish-infused vodka, sweet vermouth, orange juice and a dollop of egg white.

Hits: With a mix of millionaires, socialites, hotel guests and tourists, the Rose Club offers cocktail swillers some fabulous people-watching ops. Accents like fresh flowers, crocodile bar stools and complimentary cashews may help justify the steep prices.

Misses: Despite efforts to rejuvenate the bar with a trendy makeover, the midtown locale, pricey drinks and bottle-service-only table policy keep young drinkers at bay--unless gold-digging is on the evening's agenda.
