In Short – In the 80s, Larry Forgione was considered one of the fathers of the so-called New American cooking, and at Forge, his son Marc proves to be a chip off the old block. His restaurant, which leans heavily on beams and candles, and other such shortcuts to seduction, isn't primarily interested in gastronomic history though: It's mostly a place aimed at producing novel but familiar, well-executed food in a vaguely Allen & Delancey-like setting. And this it does.
AWESOME!

This was my 3rd time at Forge (now called Marc Forgione) as it is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The atmosphere is calming, the staff from host to server is both attentive and pleasant and the food is outstanding! I am looking forward to a return trip...perhaps brunch next time. PS, the Sunday night dinner price fix is a huge bargain.
- Pros: service, atmosphere, food
Don't bother unless you have no choice

After reading all the rave reviews, I was certain this would be a great place. Every other review goes on and on about the service and food. This is NOT TRUE! Upon arrival, we were made to wait as clearly our reservation was not kept, we were then sat at a small table cramped in the back...all the tables seemed cramped. After asking to move (which they allowed with little issue) the waitress gave us the cold shoulder for the next 30 minutes. Finally she warmed up after the entrees came out. The food was poor to average, certainly not what you would expect at these prices. The kampahi tartare was soaked in a salty broth and heaped on top of chunks of avocado. It did not taste fresh and the pretentious presentation and explanation of how to eat this dish made it that much more disappointing. While my husbands "baked potato" looked nothing like the description, it was actually pretty good (hard to mess that up). My entree was the crusted skate, which was again swimming in a salty citrus soup that must have been there to mask the taste.
- Pros: Good location, interesting decor
- Cons: food, service, wine selection
Wow factor!

I was totally impressed by the staff, the appertives right before the first course was interesting. I had the kampachi tartar to start and the flavors were amazing. The portions are misleading, they seem small but the flavors are huge. My friends ordered the roasted chicken to share and the potatoes underneath tasted like butter/herbs/completely delicious. The austrian riesling (bottle) and prosecco (by the glass) paired perfectly with the skate and chicken dishes we ordered. My glass was never empty and the waitress checked on us just enough. It was such a great dining experience I'm thinking about going again just writing this review! Wow!
- Pros: Large breathable space, great service, very romantic
- Cons: None

Know Before You Go:
The most popular dish, at least in the early going, was the chicken nuggets, which are much, much better than they sound.
