What People Are Saying About Shake Shack

In Short – The Uptown Shake Shack offers a lot that its downtown counterpart doesn't. It's in an actualy building, for one thing, that will keep the rain off your head while you wait (and wait) for your burger. There's a "rec room" in the basement suitable for birthday parties and play dates; the greater griddle space means more burgers, and thus shorter lines. Otherwise, this certified green restaurant, with its tables made of wheat and its glassed-in patio, remains true to the same single-minded task as the original Shack: perfect hamburgers, one after another, each one exactly as good…
Editor's Tips
- Know When to Go:
- Not when school lets out, that's for sure!
- Save Time:
- Like the Madison Square Park location, this Shack has a "c-line" to speed orders of cold foods and drinks.
- The Extras:
- The burger joint has a separate space for private parties and events, or for those looking to catch the game on the big screen TV.

Ciao Bella Now Uses Fillers in their Ice Cream!
by wallystump
Diasppointed to see that many (all? - we had their chocolate and triple espresso) of their ice creams now use
- Guar Gum
- Locust Bean Gum
- Carrageenan
all at the same time. Yikes! We loved the ice cram they make, but now won't touch it. Had some lately and wondered why it tasted funny. Then we read the list of ingredients. Looks like the expansion of their business drove a once great brand to focus more on profits than on the quality that got them to the top.

I wanted to see what the long lines were about at this UWS burger joint. The place draws a cross section of the community, but the people watching was better than the food. I had a shackburger, which cost a dollar more than the usual burger, but was just a burger with cheez whiz and mayo on it. The meat was nothing special. Fries were average, and I paid almost $3 for a fancy root beer, which was no better than typical root beer. This is a cut above the fast food chains, but they do not offer a superior burger experience. I don't plan to be back.
- Pros: Decent burgers
- Cons: Long lines, overpriced for the quality, not enough seats

No matter which location you frequent, shake shack never disappoints. Their location on the upper west side probably has the shortest lines of the branches, which isn't saying much, but its worth the wait. Went here Sunday and the line was out the door, but the line moves quickly. Split a shack burger, chicago dog, fries and custard with cider donuts and caramel mixed in with one of my friends. It was decadence at its finest. They make such a great burger there. Their hot dog is messy but has all the works and tons of flavor. And their custard is the perfect ending to the meal.
- Pros: burgers, shakes
- Cons: long lines
