NYC Secret
by lilnap
A bit out of the way but it was definitely worth the trek through the cold. Small, intimate space, and there weren't too many patrons when I went. But the food was delicious. Definitely try the chicken with sweet potatoes, it was very well seasoned and tasted amazing. The snapper was ok. For dessert, we had the coconut flan, which was good but not mind blowing. Glasses of wine were more expensive than anticipated at $9/glass but its pretty typical for NYC prices. Service was attentive, but relaxed. You won't be rushed out the door and is a place you can have a nice, relaxing dinner. I plan on coming back to check out their prix-fixe special.
It is OMG good

Who ever thought walking to Ave C could be so rewarding!?! Arcane is a true neighborhood gem! Once I walked in, I fell in love with the place immediately. I feel like on a Caribbean Island sitting on wood bench tasting some fusion cuisine.
Our waitress was very friendly and she patiently explained to us their signature dishes and special menu. I didn't know they have a special prix-fixe, $20 dinner including an appetizer, entree and a dessert from 5PM to 7PM.
We started our night with a pitcher of white sangria. It costs $28 but it is more than enough for 4. I got a good buzz after. As for the appetizers, we tried the feroce, papaya salad, and chilled tomato soup. Every single dish is simply amazing. The feroce is a must try. I have never had such a dish where there is fried plantain chips with guacamole salted fish paste as dip. The papaya salad reminds me of Thai Green papaya salad but less spicy yet equally refreshing. The chilled tomato soup is also very special.
For entree, I highly recommend their hanger steak and the pork curry stew. The pork is so tender and savory. The steak is grilled perfectly and so juicy.
Last but not the least, their coconut flan is amazing! It comes in a huge portion and I think I was about to puke half way because I was so full! I heard their brunch is great and they have daily special for only $10! Gosh I love to come back for brunch soon, very very soon!
- Pros: Excellent fanfare and unbeatable price
- Cons: Only Takes Cash and Amex
good for the holidays

i think's because i came here with a friend, who knew the manager, and who felt I deserved a hot turkey dinner. THe manager cooks a family recipe on Turkey and Christmas Days, feeding the lower east side and with generously portioned French Caribbean world cuisine.
You can play craps with Ben. Maybe even win. This place has the looks of an older, seedier old world dive bar i used to work at, except, the crowd is having fun. strong cognac.
- Pros: kitchen, games, late nights
- Cons: end of the meal
I keep coming back...

It’s French Caribbean and it works. Eaten here 3 times now and I have never been disappointed. First time had the steak which was great (shame the reviewer below got a bad one but the server has long since gone). Second visit was brunch where I ordered eggs benedict with pineapple. It sounds weird but I want to try something new and it worked out a treat. Third visit was last night (Aug1st) and had spiced coconut and cucumber soup followed by conch stew with green beans side, wifey had red snapper (stop the jokes! haha) - all was very good. The food is unique in a way that other places get stuck in a rut. If you getting bored of ordering mussels or a steak frits at your usual French bistro, give this a try. I don't write many reviews but this place deserves a look-in. Good luck.
- Pros: Tip-top food.
- Cons: Cash or Amex but not really an issue.

Have been there a few times and each experience was awesome. I love the bar area and the prices there are fantastic. Exactly what you need during these difficult times. The food for me has been quite tasty and delicious. Desert is fantastic! Its worth the trip out here. And the folks are awesome -- friendly and have time for a conversation!
- Pros: Prices and Ambience
- Cons: A bit far but worth it
