  1. The almond bottom was softer than I'm used to, and the chocolate coating was surprisingly rich.
  2. The chocolate creme filling was not dark chocolate, so the "Sarah Bernards" are actually biskvi, but they're very good.

Good place to rest

by NOK at Citysearch

This cafe was introduced in a guidebook for sweets and cafes, and I tried their bakery today.

I did not dine inside but bought 2 bakeries for take-away but ate them at the counter. I bought a French roll, a croissant with sliced nuts and fresh orange juice, $8.33 in total. The French roll was okay but the croissant with sliced nuts was not tasty as expected. It was not good either that they did not have a regular croissant. The fresh orange juice was over $4. It is pricey.

The counter for take-away customers has only about 5 chairs but since you can do people watching, it is a good place to rest. I may try their cakes next time.

  • Pros: Good place to rest
  • Cons: Pricey orange juice

Biskvit in Columbus Circle!

by 54nomore at Citysearch

I walked into the cafe tonight on a whim, to see what they had. I was interested after seeing the Princess Torte and the Sarah Bernard. I decided to try the Sarah Bernard. I'm a big fan of biskvi, but at $3 each, I was very ready to be disappointed. I was impressed. The almond bottom was softer than I'm used to, and the chocolate coating was surprisingly rich. Either they use cheaper ingredients in Sweden, or it's been too long since I had one. Either way, it was good.

The chocolate creme filling was not dark chocolate, so the "Sarah Bernards" are actually biskvi, but they're very good. Even at $3 each, I will probably go back for more soon.

The cashier seemed harried, but I'm used to crappy service in this town.
