Shang not worth the price and underwhelmed. We went to Shang because we saw Susur Lee on Top Chef Masters and was quite impressed by the scores he was getting. We were not very impressed by the decor when we walked in

We ordered the Singapore slaw and hot and sour soup as appetizers. The Singapore slaw was quite good with a lot of complex flavors and was mixed tableside. The hot and sour was extremely sour...and for one bowl (rice bowl size) it was $10 which officially makes it the most expensive hot and sour soup I've ever ordered. It totally wasn't worth it and i've had better from take out places. It was also extremely salty. The two dishes we got were the "Top Chef chicken curry" and scallop and shrimp dish. The Chicken curry was good but i felt like it was missing something...and sitting on top of the polenta made the texture a bit strange. The chicken was tender, however. the shrimp and scallop was pretty good. but again at $29 you can get a bigger and better tasting dishes in Chinatown.

The dessert was devil food cake with ice cream. the devil food cake was a bit dry. There were that many selections for dessert

Service was very good, they refilled our water quite often and were courteous. However, given the price, tastiness of the dishes, and size of the portions (by the way a bowl of jasmine rice runs $4 - no one eats Chinese food without rice!) it's simply wasn't worth it and it didn't live up to my expectations.

Amazing Food and Tasty Low Cal Cocktails. I love Thompson hotels and have been dying to check out the Shang restaurant at the Thompson LES. There are so many restuarant choices in downtown nyc, but the combination of quality food, ambience and cocktails is hard to find. I had dinner with a few a friends from out of town last night and was blown away. Shang was filled with beautiful people, the food was amazing and we sipped on low cal (always a plus) yin yin cocktails made with TY KU. Simply delicous- definitely coming back!

yin yin!. I've heard great things about Thompson hotel in the past so I was expecting great things when i made dinner reservations at Shang for this past Saturday. Shang was amazing and the location was perfect. I wanted a real "New York" experience and this area of town is exactly that. My girlfriend and i enjoyed these low cal yin yin cocktails as we people watched all night long!

Amazing!!. My friends and I went to Shang for dinner last night and had the most amazing experience!! The decor makes you feel like you are somewhere special, not your average restaurant. The staff was so attentive and knowledgeable! The food! The food was the best part!! I had the Rice Paper roll and the Chick Pea Onion Tempura as appetizers and OMG they were delicious!! My friends and I also shared an assortment of rolls and they were delectable!! I cannot wait to come back to Shang!!!

Shang - Avoid 7th floor bar. I went here last night for drinks for a birthday. It was early in the night, it was three girls. The guy in the lobby by the velvet rope (what a joke) was giving us a hard time about letting us in for a drink. Then you take the elevator up to the 7th floor where you get more attitude from another guy in front of velvet rope who acts like he's doing you a favor by letting you in. We had a few more girls join us later and then two guys. The girls got in with attitude from staff, and when the guys came we went to get them and the doorman said 'i already let in so many guys to your party already', when my friend said no you didn't i swear, he called her a liar. Then another wait staff guy came to our table to smooth things over and said b/c the waitress asked me nicely, I'll let you guys stay. My friend said to him, it's not a privelege for us to stay here and he stomped off in a tif. We had ordered several rounds, but asked for our check, left no tip, and went into the elevator. The waitress came out after us asking to talk to us for a minute. I said no we're done and will be leaving. They were so disrespectful to the bday girl and to all out friends that came up. There was never a line in the lobby to get in and the place was empty, so i don't why there was sooo much attitude from the staff there. On the way out other people were complaining about the service too. Go back to Customer Service 101. You should be kissing our behinds, not the other way around. Go somewhere else for a good time. When we asked them if our friends will be able to come up later, the staff said depends what they look like and what time it is. We left at 11:30 -12am and it was dead and we looked good. Stay away from this place. I've been going out in Manhattan for years, all the hot spots and have never been treated like this. I'd give it zero stars if I could.
