Tips for Mo Gridder's

Once beloved bbq restaurant is now just a Fordham bar. Excellent BBQ for the Arthur Avenue area. I would argue that the ribs are just as good or better than dinosaur bbq located in Harlem. The original menu featured smoked turkey legs, cornbread, and pickle salad. These items were totally awesome. There is alcohol on the premises, but limited to beer and wine. The staff and managers are great and fun people.

The huge drawback is that this place doesn't have regular business hours and the kitchen closes early without any regularity. One day it is open for bbq and the next it is closed. It makes it hard to appreciate the food and build up rapport with locals or those traveling to try the famous bbq. The menu has been condensed and changes very often with fluctuating prices.

During nights, the restaurant transforms into a bar exclusively for Fordham students. It seems that this bbq place has gone away from ribs, good food, regular hours to a college bar.

I've witnessed many patrons that have been turned away because of the inconsistent business. I would recommend the Hunt's Point location with 5 stars. Freddy is amazing and the most down to earth guy out there. This location, I wouldn't recommend for dining.

A beloved barbecue formerly operating out of a Bronx auto body shop moves to a real restaurant space.. Mo Gridder's was a find for New York barbecue fans, a legit barbecue operation in an obscure corner of the Bronx where you could get ribs and an oil change (The rig was attached to an auto body shop.). The restaurant version of Mo Gridders lacks that novelty, but delivers on the barbecue. The ribs are the draw, center cut St. Louis pork spareribs, smoked in the mild, sweetish fumes of cherry and apple wood; they're judiciously seasoned and maintain some texture even after long smoking. Chicken, brisket and pulled pork are all passable. The room is small and sparse, and not much more elegantly decorated than its location in the auto body shop.
