Hotels >Gem Hotel Chelsea
“The staff was very nice.”
“New York is expensive, so that is a given.”
We booked a room at The GEM last-minute
and it worked out well. This was probably the tiniest room I've ever stayed in, but all we really needed was a clean and comfortable place to sleep and shower. The bathrooms are a decent size and have nice amenities. Ladies, bring a bottle of conditioner along with you; only shampoo and body wash are provided.
The hotel itself is cute and modern and the front desk staff was friendly during our stay. We did hear vacuuming in the early morning but when a guest called out to request that they stop, the vacuum was turned off without question. I guess the guy had a rough night but honestly, I was glad he said something. With rooms this small and walls kind of thin, there should be a no vacuum policy before check-out, anyway.
I would definitely stay again for a last-minute/one night situation but if I needed a room for a longer period of time I'd likely go somewhere a bit cushier.
great hotel. Very nice hotel for the price. Yes rooms are very small but we don't spend a lot of time in the room. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Great location. Would stay there again.
Small but nice. Though the rooms are on the tiny side...(and I mean VERY tiny)...they are clean and stylish, and really a great value for NYC. We did have a bit of trouble with the billing, mainly because I was in a rush and didn't look at the folio when we checked out and had to get the issue resolved by phone. But other than that snafu, I would absolutly stay here again and recommend it to friends. NYC is not cheap, and I dont think you will find a hotel anywhere near as nice as the Gem for less. Just look at your bill closely when you checkout b/c the GM is horrible at returning phone calls!!!
A real gem!. We go to NYC with some regularity and nearly always encounter some problems with the accomodations. New York is expensive, so that is a given. But the worst part of visiting NYC is being lumped together with tourists, even if you are one! For visitors who used to live here and understand the city, we don't want to stay in some chain in Times Square. We want a real, residential NYC experience. The Gem provides that. It is understated, comfortable, quiet, friendly and well appointed. If you are looking for some kind of palatial suite with lots of amenities, then this isn't your hotel. But if you just want a peaceful place to hang your hat which is near great restaurants and public trans in a residential area, then consider the Gem.
Great Boutique Hotel, Loved It!.
I have been to NYC many times and have stayed all over the city. I thought I would try out a hotel closer to my destination and stumbled upon the GEM Hotel Chelsea. I was unsure about a new hotel but I went with it and much to my surprise I really enjoyed my stay.
I arrived much earlier than my check in time and decided to stop by the hotel to see if there was any chance at an early check in and they checked me right in. The decor is modern and minimalist. I love that. The staff was very nice. Good first impression.
I went up to my room and it was just a little larger than the size of the bed. If you like an expansive room, this is not for you. But I loved my little space. The space was really clean with modern features. I loved the pocket door bathroom.
I didn't spend much time in my room but the time I did spend there I hung out and watched tv. I am heading back to NYC in a few weeks and plan to stay there a second time. I will keep you posted on how my second trip goes.
