Amazing Southern Food. I can't believe I have never come here before although I live 2 blocks away. What an amazing place! They have bacon peanut brittle!!! Those are a must try. Did I mention their butter milk battered fried chicken? Yes, they are delicious and the side salad with strawberry is amazing too.

You should also try their burger with bacon because it is juicy, big and simply awesome. It comes with a side of waffle chips too.

Servers were friendly and the atmosphere was pretty lively yet chill.

Great neighborhood restaurant. The redhead is the perfect neighborhood restaurant - comfortable, inviting and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly and the food is great. The One Eyed Caesar is a great twist on a classic. The fried chicken is crisp and not greasy - some of the best I have had in NYC. The redhead without a doubt has the best shrimp and grits in the city. The menu changes often, based on the season, and is priced for the average joe.

The redhead is a favorite of other service industry professionals, as seen by the myriad of chefs, servers and bartenders from Saam Bar, Hearth, Eleven Madison Park and Terroir that both eat and drink here. To me, this says it all.

East Village bar with fabulous Southern food.. Small, dark and homey, this East Village bar is the surprising home to some of the best American food in town. The menu ranges from bacon peanut brittle and sweet corn soup (festooned with little pieces of lobster) to a buttermilk fried chicken that has been hailed as one of the top versions in New York. The place is more a bar than a restaurant and can get pretty crowded at times, but it's hard not to like the prices, particularly for the southern specialties that have earned The Redhead its high reputation in the area. So good are they, in fact, that you may be tempted to order seconds.

redhead, more like dead-head. i want to preface this review with the fact that i have 7 years experience in nyc dining as both a server and a bartender-- that being said, i am pretty easy to please, it takes a lot to disappoint- read some favorable reviews on yelp and in ny magazine for redhead--made a res for 5 people-- got there on time weren't seated for 45 minutes, not a big deal except the servers didn't really seem to care at all about us being seated so late--once we were seated, our party of five was squeezed into a booth for four- all of our food, both apps and entrees arrived at the table at the same time with no explanation, water was never refilled, drink orders were taken and partially filled, food was good but not exceptional---all in all this place feels like a bar that serves food but is trying to act like a restaurant--no sense of anyone in charge or really caring (except the chef perhaps)-- the waitresses never smiled-- and, as i said, being a veteran of nyc service, i know restaurant customers can be big pain in the neck, but this place was just dismal, disappointing, just sad- no thanks.
