“had dinner at fatty crab over the holiday weekend overall just a really great experience.”
“Cool music, fun bar and the most interesting menu around.”
“think this is a great place to hang in the neighborhood cant wait to get back.”
“The food is fantastic, the music is loud but that's why I like it and the staff is a lot of fun and could answer any question i had about the food.”
“Being a local and a huge fan of Fatty Crab, last night we headed up north to try out Fatty Crab UWS.”
“We were not impressed with the Nasi Lemak (coconut rice, chicken curry, slow poached egg) and the Dorade Penang (some kind of white fish).”
delicious. Had a great meal there. Loved the punk rock in the dining room. The food was fantastic! Had that watermelon pork belly thing...awesome!
It doesn't even deserve 1 star. The service at this place was nonexistent. I don't know if the waiter forgot my order or the kitchen forgot to make my food but I waited 10 minutes for my pork buns while the rest of my table got their appetizers quickly. Then the server brought the main entrees to the table. Once again, I was left waiting for my food. After 20 mins of waiting and informing the waiter that I didn't receive my Chicken Clay Pot, I wasn't hungry anymore. By then, the waiter was nice enough to inform me that my food was coming out. Sir, everyone else at my table was almost done with their food and I'm not hungry anymore. Most restaurants wouldn't have charged me for the food BUT they charged me full price for the pork buns and the bowl of rice (which I only ordered to have with my chicken). $13 for the pork buns and $3 for the bowl of rice, which I only ate a few bites of while waiting for my clay pot. I approached the waiter asked him why I had to pay for the pork buns if it was part of my prix fixe and I only got half the food I ordered. The manager (at least I think it was since he didn't bother to introduce himself) said that they were already losing money offering the prix fixe just to get people into the restaurant. I don't know how that is my problem. He should talk to his accountant about that. If you are losing money on the lunch prix fixe, then why bother offering it? Anyways, this individual was extremely condescending and neither the "manager" or waiter bothered to even say sorry for the mixup or delay. I think the situation could have been better handled. A simple apology would be a start.
Horribly overpriced. As you can see by my username, this is the first food review I've ever posted. I have lived in New York for 3+ years now and have grown accustomed to overpriced meals, but this was the worst I've ever experienced. Everything on the menu is overpriced, but $50 for the chili crab is insane. They should be ashamed.
Gotta order the fatty dog..
We came because it was Malayasian Restaurant week but sadly the $20.10 menu was only for lunch!
We were seated promptly right underneath a speaker so the entire night with the music blasting, my companions and I had to shout to each other to maintain a conversation.
The green mango salad and fatty dog were very good. So was the crispy pork with pickled watermelons.
We were not impressed with the Nasi Lemak (coconut rice, chicken curry, slow poached egg) and the Dorade Penang (some kind of white fish). The former was expensive for what you got and the latter was too "fishy" and salty.
If I do come again, maybe I'll get the fatty dog, the salad and a (pricey) cocktail.
BRING EARPLUGS and be prepared to shout.
It was so loud that we had to tell the waitstaff to turn the volume down. The first attempt didn't get anything done. The second time, the staff turned it up even louder. When the food arrived, we told the waiter we were leaving because it was too loud and nothing was being addressed. Suddenly, money spoke louder than their sound system. The bare walls and uncarpeted floors just act as amplifiers.
I wish another restaurant can come up with the caliber and quality of their southern style chili crab (it's a very sweetened Johore/Singapore in flavor).
GREAT COCKTAILS!. Me and my girlfriends came by after the steely dan concert the cocktails were amazing. Really big bar. I didnt have a chance to try the food but everything looked really good. I can't wait to see another show at the beacon so i can come back.
fun times. I never write on these things but this place was really a great time. Our waiter just ordered for the table and the food was really amazing. we had this one dish that looked like some kinda dinosaur rib it was crazy definately messy. This place is a great new addition to the neighborhood.
Fatty Crab Rocks!. Finally made it to the UWS restaurant for a friends birthday. We had a great time. The servers were very helpful and recommended some great dishes. chili crab was soooo good and spicy, probably the messiest food ever! Cant wait to make it back.
Great flavors, fun vibe. Heard a lot about this place and decided to finally give it a try. Was nervous because had heard that everything was spicy and I don't always love the spice. Went with their suggestions and LOVED it! Duck was my fav: sweet, juicy and really awesome rice underneath (navigate the chiles). Also, pork and watermelon: funky combo but weirdly works . Will bring out-of-towners here for the unique atmosphere and flavors. Want to check out their brunch in the future.
Best Bar in hood. Downtown vibe that works! Cool music, fun bar and the most interesting menu around. The UWS tide has turned...
