I got a beautiful layered haircut, expertly done by Sara-- Not an easy task on my very thick mane. She listened carefully to my concerns, made suggestions, and then painstakingly cut layers to frame my face and show off my waves. And she did a fantastic blowout-- the best I've ever had! While I was in the chair, another customer came in for just a blowout appointment with her, and I can see why. Sara really is a skilled stylist, and very personable as well. The rest of the staff is also friendly and professional.

highly recommend. Last week I went to Ben David where I was lucky enough to have Sara color my hair! Sara took the the time to listen to my ideas as she made suggestions and advised me of a "look" that would work for me. Well, needless to say her expertise was obvious when I was pleasantly surprised by the "new and improved" me! I LOVED my hair color!! I have been getting so many compliments on my hair from friends and family. Sara's kind and caring way of pleasing her customer was greatly appreciated. I am happy to have found someone I can trust to do my hair. I highly recommend Sara at Ben David Salon!!

TERRIBLE SERVICE, Inexperienced and Unprofessional Employees. I received full highlights at the downtown salon, which the stylist left on for far too long. I did not notice the color since my hair was wet upon leaving. When I went home to blow-dry my hair, my highlights were SILVER/GRAY. I called the salon the very next day and spoke with the manager, who refused to offer me a correction color. I didn't understand why I had to pay for a mistake that an employee of this salon had made. I then spoke with the owner who made an appointment with me to "fix my hair" the very next day. He called me five minutes after our conversation to notify me that he had spoken with the manager downtown and cancelled my appointment. He stated, "You shouldn't have asked for COOL-toned highlights" and basically claimed that my silver highlights were my fault. I convinced him to "fix my hair" and received a SINGLE PROCESS dark brown coloring at the uptown salon. The owner mixed the dye, then proceeded to tell me that I needed to pay for the dye job. After arguing with him for about ten minutes, he agreed to do it "for free". The hairdresser that he assigned to me took over 50 minutes to put the dye in my hair (it was supposed to be on for 30 minutes). My hair turned jet black and the silver highlights still showed through. The salon refused to give me my money back. I have never had to deal with such unprofessional, rude, and insensitive people before.

spend half your day on mediocre (at best) hair & service.
This was my first (and last) appointment at Ben David salon UES. I literally waited an hour and 15 min for my appt while I watched Ben frolic around the salon talking to other customers, talking on his cell phone etc. When he finally put me in a chair he was quick putting foils in. While he had his assistant shampoo me, he took another client and I sat under the dryer for about 45 minutes (30 of which it had turned off so I was just sitting there) and watched him put foils in her hair. He did do a great job on my highlights, but I also got low lights and when I got home I noticed a big brown spot on my bangs where the color must have touched. I'm going to have to get it fixed but there's NO way I'm going back there!
While Ben was very nice and definitely has good intentions, he needs some business etiquette and maybe a Ritalin prescription lol.
by the way.. it's overly obvious that the reviews below were posted by the stylists themselves. what a freakin' joke. ugh

Look Beautiful:Amazing Hair Care & Great Customer Service. I have just had another terrific experience with Maria at Ben David Salon on the Upper East Side and I love looking at my hair in the mirror. The salon is well run, appointments are always on time and pricing is fair and reasonable. But more importantly, the stylists work hard at making you look good. The color services are excellent, and the hair cuts and blow outs are fabulous. Maria, in particular, has been giving me spot on color and cut advice for years. She recommended a keratin straightening which was life altering. She is quick, efficient, and I've been delighted with the result. She is a real find - although I am afraid to share her! Most highly recommended!

one of the best hair stylist.
i've been going to bendavid for years! never have i had a complain or a bad experience. i've been doing my hair with maria. she does all my colors, cuts and blowdrys. she's very professional and super quick. i cant imagine doing my hair with anyone else.

Great Overall Experience. I've had very good experiences at Ben David Salon. I've had cut, color & Brazilian Keratin straightening done there & have never left unsatisfied with any of their services. I go to Meral who is fantastic and so sweet. For the most part, everyone at the salon is friendly.

Great Stylists - But you have to pick the right person!.
Both my husband (who has fairly long, styled hair) and I have been going to the UES Ben David salon since 2008. Out of all the visits we've had, I've only had one negative experience.
I started seeing Marel (sp?) who was wonderful. When she left to have her baby, I got stuck with a stylist named Maria. She was horrible! It took her almost three hours for a standard wash, cut, and blow dry - and after the three horrible hours, I was left with a shelf in my hair. My husband always sees Fabiola, so I decided to see her for my next hair cut. That was the best move ever. Fabiola is truly awesome!!! She has great ideas and always manages to make my hair look awesome, even after I leave and have to do it myself.
As for the salon itself, it's a little run down, but not terrible. The reception staff is so sweet, as are the hair washers. I highly recommend the Ben David salon - just avoid Maria!

Satisfied Customer. BenDavid salon is wonderful; I' ve only had good experiences. I am very pleased to be a client of the salon for 8 years. It has great great colorists and stylists. BenDavid himself is a great stylist and amazing person.
